DEMENTED Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Plekked then I assume? Big ole' Louisville Slugger neck?
BCR Greg Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 These are the only new Gibson guitars that impress me.
cmatthes Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 The VOS guitars are the best Gibsons I've played in the last few years. Definitely the way to go if you're looking for one of those classic models.
DavidE Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 What's the story on these??? How are these different from Standards, Historics etc....?
murkat Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 it is an historic. a reissue 58'. plaintop. as close ur going to get to a real one for the most part. and I get to pick out some nice ones to build out and setup.
serial Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 For all of the trash talk about Gibson that you hear on the web, I have to say, I must have missed that train, b/c all of the Gibson Historic stuff I've played has been superb. I have a 99 FB1 and an 06 R4 goldtop and I'm knocked out by both of those. I WILL be getting some more of this stuff down the line-a Junior, Special, Custom or SG is in my future I would guess. If I had the scratch right now, I'd be all over this R8!
DavidE Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 So, it's not chambered? No "weight relief" holes? etc...???Historically accurate neck tenon etc... and all that jazz???
BCR Greg Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Just BUY the damn guitar, fer pete's sake! It's a long tenon R8 with a semigloss finish over a plain top.
DavidE Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Just BUY the damn guitar, fer pete's sake! It's a long tenon R8 with a semigloss finish over a plain top.Geez, forgive me for asking some questions...
murkat Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 So, it's not chambered? No "weight relief" holes? etc...??? Historically accurate neck tenon etc... and all that jazz??? you are correct in assumption on all accounts
ArnieZ Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 and I built that one Literally this one?
DavidE Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I'm thinking through whether I want to part with my Std. Premium Plus which I'd have to do to get into this one.Would the neck on this '58 VOS be different from the neck on my Std. Premium Plus with 50's neck?

Would the neck on this '58 VOS be different from the neck on my Std. Premium Plus with 50's neck? I am not familiar with the neck on your guitar. The R7's and 8's have the same neck profile I believe. They are big necks.ArnieZ

murkat Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 and I built that one Literally this one? Yes, that very one. I know my builds
gregc Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Great guitars. I own one and gigged it twice this past week. Vintage LP sound & feel.
Jack C Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 The Historic necks tend to be bigger than the regular production '59 shape. Sometimes significantly bigger.
DavidE Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 The Historic necks tend to be bigger than the regular production '59 shape. Sometimes significantly bigger. Thanks, I'm not sure I want anything bigger. The wide/fat on my PRSi are perfect for me and I like the Gibson 50's neck. I had a nice Edwards that I really liked, but the more I played it, the more I found the neck was just too big. I'm trying to avoid that.
Brewmaster Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Beautiful. As good as it get's from Gibby. 8 lbs .12oz, damn that's friggin near perfect.
