jorg Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Not sure what they call the color but I've never seen another one like it.http://s286.photobucket.com/albums/ll91/jorg_np/Hamer/
HAMERMAN Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Very nice! I don't recall ever seeing a 5 string 1st generation Cruisebass before. Anybody have any idea of they ever made any?
jorg Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 What generation is mine? Also, the serial is 820810. Would that make it '88?
maxschrek Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 That is a stellar color dude! It almost looks like Fender's Burgundy Mist, one of my personal faves. T
Mindseyes Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 What generation is mine? Also, the serial is 820810. Would that make it '87-'88? Yours is a 1st generation here is two of my 2nd generation The Green one was my main giging bass for many years, ive shed lots of blood on that thing I'll never let it go..........to much DNA on it
serial Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Very nice! I don't recall ever seeing a 5 string 1st generation Cruisebass before. Anybody have any idea of they ever made any? The 5 string Cruise was a standard catalog item (1st generation). Not sure how many were done, but they're in the 83 foldout catalog.
jorg Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 I don't know if you can tell but it has seen very little play time. There is only one very small ding on the front, nearly impossible to find in pics. The OHSC is in the same condition. Someone ordered it and didn't like it when it came in. It sat in a local guitar shop for a few years before I convinced the owner to sell it to me. I'm a guitar player and only get this out on rare occasions. A buddy and I played a few songs at a work sponsored picnic and there's a short clip on youtube. I'll find it a post a link. Ha! found it. That's my friend Darren on bass and me on guitar.
Steve Haynie Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I'm a guitar player and only get this out on rare occasions. Seems a shame... do you want to sell it so that it gets out a little more?
jorg Posted June 17, 2008 Author Posted June 17, 2008 I haven't really thought about it but I guess if the right offer came around. . .I also have an old G&L Lynx 4 string so I wouldn't be completely bassless.
tobereeno Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 whoa, never thought there was another 1st gen 5 string Cruise. Here's mine:
tomteriffic Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 whoa, never thought there was another 1st gen 5 string Cruise. Here's mine: THUD.....
jorg Posted August 27, 2008 Author Posted August 27, 2008 What was the price range for a Cruise like mine when new? The serial is 820810. 1988?
cmatthes Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 List price from '84 through '86 for the 5 String Cruisebass held pretty steady at $999.90. It edged up to a $1,099 list in January, '87 and stayed there until it was discontinued/replaced by the more expensive Chapparal bass. Note that the case listed separately at $159.90.A 5-string option was always available on the 1st Gen Cruises, although it may or may not have shown up in the catalogs. In early ads (the ones with the cherry red Cruisebass), there was a line at the bottom line that read "5 String Model Also Available". These ads date back to early '82.Cool stuff, back in the day when 5 strings were not at all commonplace.
MCChris Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 whoa, never thought there was another 1st gen 5 string Cruise. Here's mine: Graphic, LEDs, Kahler, stadium logo .... pure '80s excess in every respect. Love it!

jorg Posted August 29, 2008 Author Posted August 29, 2008 Cool. I paid nowhere near $1258 for mine and it still looks as good as the day it was made. So, would mine be from '88?
zorrow Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 These Phantom-like basses make me wish I was a bassist -- at least just for once. Sooooo cool! Keep them coming, please!
