  1. Ana, I think you need to fire up a Marley and find an older man. You'll be alright. .......As I type this, Satch's 'Summer Song' starts up. Makes me feel better every time.

  2. I had a faible for Aerosmith' Walk This Way to lift me up after strong working sessions. Satriani's Flying In A Blue Dream gets me going anytime I hear it. Best version to be found on the Satriani Live! CD. It's really flying.

  3. Agressive music. Metal (usually) or rap (sometimes). Lamb of God or Pantera on the metal. I have a little mix of about 8 songs. Picks me right up. - Austin

  4. I usually listen to some really dark blues stuff... http://youtu.be/MPNi-y_j0I4 Always helps me to hear about somebody who's got it worse than I think I do.

  6. Right. Catharsis vs mood alteration I'm convinced that Metallica got me through my late-teen angst w/o a suicide attempt because I got to scream along with Fade To Black instead of actually making everything fade to black. But when I want to pull myself out of a bad mood, I often go with upbeat jazz forms, whether fusion, dixieland, big band, or Latin. If not, then upbeat 80s-style rock. It is difficult for me to give specifics, because those are mostly mid-/late-90s Chinese pop stars... I used to separate my music by mood, but the "Down" folder very nearly caused a divorce, so I stopped doing that.

  7. I'm with GMan, it depends if I want to stay there for a bit (and work my way out), or if I need to get out as fast as I can! If I'm going to stay there, I've got plenty of depressing singer songwriters/alt-rock stuff. If my wife hears it, she knows I'm in a sad state. If I'm angry (like a pissy day at work), out comes the Anthrax, Testament, and such. If I've had a bad day but I need to get better quick (especially around the family), I put stuff on that is upbeat, filled with melody, and makes me want to sing a long. Note: don't put trite music on if you are in a mood, it'll make you want to strangle your speakers!

  9. Certainly, ben wahs can be used to dissipate the sadness... I'll fix the title

  10. YMMV- DEFINITELY But I agree with G Man's assessment- sometimes you wanna run with that sadness, as strange as that sounds. Maybe let it run it's course is a better analogy. Times like that, especially when they were brought on by relationship issues, Type O Negative's Too Late: Frozen came in handy. When I wanna be free of the sad shit, it's either nostalgic and upbeat goodies that recall good times/places or defiant, unrelenting rockers. As in, I will NOT let this/you beat me down. Again, Too Late: Frozen comes to mind

  11. I suppose that depends on whether you want to stay in that sad space and relish it, or find a way out. If the former, lots of dark alt-country stuff, ala Wilco. If the latter, live Dead from the late 70s. YMWV.
