  1. Well, I'm seriouly willing to give them a try!
  2. Quite simple to me: a Super-strat looks like a Fender Stratocaster (more or less) but has the following additional features: - 24 frets (or more). - At least one humbucker (at the bridge position). - A floating tremolo (Floyd-Rose or Khaler). Edited to add: There are some guitars with 22-frets that might be considered as Super-strats as well -- I'm thinking about those ESP models.
  3. I don't play those but I have played them. So, I vote Hamer because the Cali has better access to higher frets and better tone -- actually, I still have to play a Jackson whose tone pleases me. I also own a Centaura (Slammer Series) and love to play it -- even if I don't play it as much as my vees.
  4. I would like a lot the one with the flames... if it had no flames at all!
  5. I believe everything he says --I mean, in this case.
  6. +1 It looks like we're getting closer to crying out loud "Hamer is dead. Long live Hamer!"
  7. Forgive my ignorance... What is a "modern upgrade kit"? :|
  8. Several years ago I got a new Chinese Standard from Dave and it felt, played and sounded great. I sold it to a guy in a local band who was looking for an Explorer. He tried a Gibson Explorer (USA) and my Standard (import) side to side and he finally decided on the Standard. However, it must be said that the Gibson was 900 bucks while my Standard was 450. It must also be said that Dave hand-picked my Standard from all the imports he had in stock at that moment -- well, he told me so. I've tried Epiphone Explorers too and they feel a little slimmer than import Standards. I prefer the slightly fatter neck on the import Standard. Also, the pickups on the Epi aren't very good to my tastes --they are a tad muddy. On the other hand, Duncan Designed pickups on Hamer imports sound great --I mean, really GREAT, and you all know I am a tone freak. So, my conclusion is: the import Standard wins. And if in addition you are into the fancier features such as crown inlays, body and neck binding and a cute flame top, it's a no brainer --and you get "Hamer" printed on the headstock as a bonus. But of course, all this is just my opinion. You should still try them all and judge for yourself. Edited to add: FYI, I sold the Standard just because I never got used to its shape.
  9. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes Scorpions here.
  10. Well, as I said, I've overlooked his lead playing all these years, but after paying attention I'm 100% with you: great tone, attitude and articulation.
  11. Well, now that my fingers hurt, I'm back online. Yeah, maybe because of the ugly cover it was at 2 x 10 bucks at Wallmart. I got that one and Kiss' "Destroyer" --another cheesy cover, I know. BTW, I like "Great Expectations" from Kiss. I'm glad I'm re-discovering this music --I'm a thrash son, but better late than never to get into this stuff.
  12. I have to tell this to someone: I'm so into Uli Jon Roth and Michael Schenker that I had completely overlooked Mathias Jabs' abilities as a lead guitar player. I got Scorpions' "World Wide Live" yesterday and I've been playing it the whole day. Mathias Jabs is all over the place on that album, really on fire... Man, you bet this guy can play! He's got some serious chops... One could even say Van Halen with Scorpions! It's quite... stimulating. So, I think I'm grabbing my guitar right now and BURRRN. CU later!
  13. It looks great anyway, man! Killer axe!
  14. The headstock is 3x3, right? Because if it was a six-in-line, I'm affraid it wouldn't still be here.
  15. Yeah, pics please! As the other pics are already gone and I'm arriving late to the show.
  16. Yeah, it looks like a sick tissue of some sort. I don't really like it.
  17. I remembered it from an old Vector thread. I think it was Zorrow's guitar. I wished it was! No, it's actually Seeker's -- but FYI I'm the first in line.
  18. The two most desirable items around to me --according to my current state of mind: 1- BTMN's Korina Vector: 2- Russ' white "ugly-headstock" '84 Vector: Edited to add: I don't really know in which order, even if the korina babe I know it's better --at least in theory.
  19. Yeah, +1 on those... Visibly modern metal is making its job of irritating older generations.
  20. News needed from Hamer: "We have the pleasure to announce that for the next 10 custom orders coming from HFC members we will build whatever they would ask us to build. This offer applies to only one order per customer."
  21. Steve Vai. Great great guitarist, I know... but WHAT A SHOWMAN!
  22. Once I got the stupid idea of adding a label "contains delicate guitar parts". I guess it sounded quite funny to them (the word "delicate" is too... delicate, I know), so they smashed the package, just merciless. My guitar parts arrived completely ruined to their destination. I did get a refund, but the lesson was learned!
  23. Wise, deep thoughts.
  24. I love Joe Bonamassa. Those wide bends and his vibrato are cool as hell. And he is a great singer too. BTW, the lady in the crowd... she looks so damn lonely!
