  1. al dimeola, john mclaughlin, paco delucia, & steve morse, all together on acoustics. went back in high school ~'84, at a ~1000 seat theater. there was supposed to be 2 shows, we had tix for the 2nd show. got there early, and there was no ticket takers or security, just an open door w/ amazing acoustic shredding wafting out. we walked in, the place was packed, so we walked to the front and sat in the asile. watched ~35 minutes, amazing!! found out the 2nd show was cancelled, so we got a full refund on our tix!! i was a big dimeola fan, but i gotta say that morse stole the show; everyone but morse was doing that "fri nite in SF" style tremelo picking & overplaying, but morse just busted out w/ some bluegrass and soulful bendy licks and really stood out. ps- also gotta give props to the 4-5 texxas jams i went to in the mid 80's. i forget exact lineups, but i saw gary moore (w/ ian paice on drums), ozzy w/ jake, rush, VH w/ sam, metallica, deep purple (made out w/ a "perfect stranger", hot little chick that i woulda took home except she lived in waxahachie and i didnt wanna drive her home the next day!!)... good times.
  2. really too many to list; seems they book much more genre specific openers in the last 25 years.
  3. HAPPY B-DAY TOM & DOOGIE!!!!
  4. plus, the fans will have more $$ in their pockets for band merch.
  5. wild angels? love that flick.
  6. typically ,all but the biggest headliners PAY to play ozzfest. the exposure & merch makes it worthwhile.
  7. i thought the 2nd guitar (purple strat) sounded best, but maybe it was the only one that he used the neck pup on (?). we sometimes do "purple rain" at acoustic duo gigs, it goes over pretty good.
  8. http://cgi.ebay.com/90S-HAMER-SLAMMER-SERI...1QQcmdZViewItem saw this today. my buddy has one just like it, slammer series (earliest & best of the imports). just add some GFS pups and a set up, it would be a killer cheap tele.
  9. ...said the guy who gigs w/ tech21's!! i know, i know, TM60's kick ass (i used to have a TM10). ps- buy the LP!!!
  10. So King Crimson was Talking Heads before Talking Heads were Talking Heads? That clip had fukkin' ENERGY! I liked that a lot. i remember watching that on friday night, then saturday morning riding my bike to the mall to buy the Discipline album w/ my paper route money.
  11. yikes, easy w/ the homophobia, we have gay members here. that's about as classy as dropping the N word or going all mel gibson. -brooks (short hetro half jew)
  12. lotsa good ones mentioned so far. i remember soundgarden and smashing pumpkins sounding very crappy. beleive it or not, hanson sounded really good! i swear!
  13. back to VH; did y'all see ed's pic on this months guitar world cover? ewww, whata bad plastic surgery job!!
  14. i like the sweet, whats that live album called?
  15. +1 on kiss alive, judas priest unleashed in the east, the who live at leeds, & frampton comes alive. i'll throw in thin lizzy - live and dangerous (also studio doctored, but better than the studio albums).
  16. my dick's small, but i like cheap gear!
  17. JB was a huge influence, as his stuff was the 1st non hard rawk music that i dug, thus leading me into funk & jazz. r.i.p. godfather.
  18. those are just 80w? looks like 4 6L6's.
  19. GET A HAIRCUT!! ha! congrats broseph!
  20. you can get an amen, no problem. but, getting a gig playing that stuff might be harder. seriously, there's not many classic rawk gigs around here. but there is modern rawk, blues, and acoustic.
  21. i've been going w/ lower wattages for several years (decades!) now; i grew up playing loud ~100w amps (fender twin/quad, sound city 120; i never could turn 'em past 4 at a gig). then, i played a long line of ~50w heads & combos (fender/marshall/ampeg/etc). in the last few years i've tried a few nicer <30w combos, like the reverend hellhound, & carr rambler (usually set on 14w triode setting), as well as the cheap but cool fender pro jr (15w). for rehearsals/recording/small bar gigs/gigs with full PA & monitors (basically everything except loud rawk/metal), you really don't need more than 15w (IMFO). i now own a thd univalve (and a crate powerblock for backup). the ability to swap tubes, along w/ the attenuater/line out makes the univale a great choice.
  22. i used to use that line ("hey man, is that freedom rawk?!") at gigs all the time.
  23. "ughhhhhh, too much cheese, i can't poop!!!!"
  24. i think we tend to forget how picky we are because we're musicians; joe schmo usually doesn't know or care if a band has all the original members or if they have a new album. he just wants to hear the big hits. IMFO, if a band can still pull it off live, and sell some tickets, go for it. for example, my beloved sabs really sucked when i saw 'em at ozzfest last summer; time to call it a day, ozzy. but, dio still has pipes, so the "heaven & hell" tour is something i'll probably see when it rolls thru town.
