  1. Yeah, I remember the trem on my old PRS CU24 as being pretty much perfect. I've read mixed things about the Wilkies.
  2. Heavy, dude. I guess you don't need a baritone guitar to tune down to C!
  3. It's spelled "FRAGILE" but pronounced "PUNISH ME".
  4. Holy cow, that Artist looks like my old one! *sob*
  5. You've been following me around, haven't you?
  6. I think we're getting our Buzzys confused. Buzzy Fretts ≠ Michael "Buzzy" O'Keeffe.
  7. Oh yeah, and don't forget to check out the waterfalls: http://www.nycwaterfalls.org/.
  8. For pizza, I recommend Lombardi’s. If you’re going to be out in Brooklyn, you might want to stop by Grimaldi’s instead, but it’s not worth going out of your way just to go there IMHO. I also recommend the crab-pork soup dumplings at Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown (NOT their other location), the Korean BBQ (kalbi) at Kang Suh, the bagels at Ess-a-Bagel (any of their locations), the American BBQ at Daisy May’s, the hummus at Nanoosh, the nouveau Mexican at Hell’s Kitchen (the restaurant, not the neighborhood, although it does happen to be located in the neighborhood), and I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch of other great options in the low-to-mid-priced (<$50/person) range. I can suggest pricier places or other ethnic options too if you’re interested. Citysearch.com is a good resource. I think Serial had a bad experience with 30th Street Guitars, but they’ve always treated me well and always have an interesting selection of used gear. I try to avoid 48th Street if I can. I only go to the US Open when I can mooch a ticket off of my brother or one of my corporate law friends, but it’s always a blast. I hear MoMA has a really good Dali exhibit right now. Admission has gotten kinda pricey at $20, but it’s free on Friday nights, I think, if you’re willing to endure insane lines. And Central Park is always nice on weekends. East Village, Alphabet City and Lower East Side are the last bastions of hipster culture in Manhattan. Have fun!
  9. When I deleted inlays on my custom orders, I was told it was an upcharge because Hamer uses some of the inlay holes to guide their CNC machine.
  10. Whoa, I must have missed the thread about the nerve damage. Sorry to hear about it too.
  11. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I know 2 people who recently got through surgery/chemo/radiation and they're both back to 100%. Hang in there, stay positive and play the shit out of your guitars.
  12. WOW. Glad I caught this thread. Reading this has been like watching one of those extreme makeover shows where someone who's been horribly disfigured gets reconstructive surgery and is given a new chance at a normal life. Except in this case they turn out to be supermodel beautiful! Kudos, RoyB.
  13. Thanks for saying so! Those clips were actually done using a POD XT and before I acquired a couple of my key stompboxes. That reminds me I need to ask the drummer to post a new version of Comfortably Numb, which I'm hoping will sound a lot better.
  14. I suspect that in the studio for Comfortably Numb they pushed the Electric Mistress effect signal down in the mix. Going straight through an Electric Mistress gives you a very pronounced chorusy flanging sound, which you can hear on a song like Dogs off of Animals. More important to the Comfortably Numb solos are his rotating speakers, which give you that phasing whoosh. I've pretty much given up on trying to exactly replicate that tone, it's untouchable. But yeah, gilmourish.com is the place for your Gilmour gear questions. It's been invaluable to me.
  15. Those were the days indeed.
  16. My Pink Floyd tribute band's 1st show in over a year:
  17. Dang, I always miss the good deals!
  18. There have definitely been improvements in Fender quality recently. I get the sense that they're taking a little more pride in their products and making an effort to improve their brand. It's no coincidence that the only electric guitars I own that aren't Hamer are Fenders. On the other hand, there's still no question that Hamer quality still blows away Fender quality in terms of their everyday output. For me it's wait-and-see time. Re the "Squier Standard" comment: that would actually be a good thing in terms of boosting the Hamer brand image. It probably won't help sell import Standards, though.
  19. I would trace an outline of the guitar body on pieces of paper and let your kids brainstorm about different design ideas before actually committing to this.
  20. Happy birthday, Ted!
  21. Surprising that positions 3 and 4 weren't reversed. Still, can't wait to check one out!
  22. The only one I've tried (a Classic w/vintage tuners, bent saddles on a 2-point bridge) was simply awesome. Great vintage style but super-solid and refined build quality. The stainless steel frets were a joy, as was the fat neck. It was better than my old Melancon and the 2 Anderson's I've tried.
  23. Just got back from Seoul, otherwise would've posted sooner: My condolences, Frank.
  24. I saw the Aimee Mann Xmas concert in NYC last Tuesday. It was a bit flat and low-energy, IMHO, although the 3/4-capacity crowd was partly to blame. The Xmas song reinterpretations were interesting, though, and I bet the CD is great. Nellie MacKay was awesome, I have to get some of her stuff. Oh, and for some Hamer content: the guitar player, whatever his name is, was good, but I missed Julian Coryell's Newport stylings.
