I'd Appreciate Your Prayers, Vibes and Thoughts
burningyen replied to DavidE's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I know 2 people who recently got through surgery/chemo/radiation and they're both back to 100%. Hang in there, stay positive and play the shit out of your guitars. -
1984 Standard 0734 in the house w/ lots-O-photos
burningyen replied to RoyB's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
WOW. Glad I caught this thread. Reading this has been like watching one of those extreme makeover shows where someone who's been horribly disfigured gets reconstructive surgery and is given a new chance at a normal life. Except in this case they turn out to be supermodel beautiful! Kudos, RoyB. -
David Gilmour's lead tone (NHC)
burningyen replied to Scottcrud's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Thanks for saying so! Those clips were actually done using a POD XT and before I acquired a couple of my key stompboxes. That reminds me I need to ask the drummer to post a new version of Comfortably Numb, which I'm hoping will sound a lot better. -
David Gilmour's lead tone (NHC)
burningyen replied to Scottcrud's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I suspect that in the studio for Comfortably Numb they pushed the Electric Mistress effect signal down in the mix. Going straight through an Electric Mistress gives you a very pronounced chorusy flanging sound, which you can hear on a song like Dogs off of Animals. More important to the Comfortably Numb solos are his rotating speakers, which give you that phasing whoosh. I've pretty much given up on trying to exactly replicate that tone, it's untouchable. But yeah, gilmourish.com is the place for your Gilmour gear questions. It's been invaluable to me. -
Those were the days indeed.

Dang, I always miss the good deals! -
There have definitely been improvements in Fender quality recently. I get the sense that they're taking a little more pride in their products and making an effort to improve their brand. It's no coincidence that the only electric guitars I own that aren't Hamer are Fenders. On the other hand, there's still no question that Hamer quality still blows away Fender quality in terms of their everyday output. For me it's wait-and-see time. Re the "Squier Standard" comment: that would actually be a good thing in terms of boosting the Hamer brand image. It probably won't help sell import Standards, though.

I need advice on a "kind of" custom guitar idea
burningyen replied to bbobb24's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I would trace an outline of the guitar body on pieces of paper and let your kids brainstorm about different design ideas before actually committing to this. -
Happy birthday, Ted!

Surprising that positions 3 and 4 weren't reversed. Still, can't wait to check one out!

The only one I've tried (a Classic w/vintage tuners, bent saddles on a 2-point bridge) was simply awesome. Great vintage style but super-solid and refined build quality. The stainless steel frets were a joy, as was the fat neck. It was better than my old Melancon and the 2 Anderson's I've tried.

Our condolences to Frank Rindone

Just got back from Seoul, otherwise would've posted sooner: My condolences, Frank. -
I saw the Aimee Mann Xmas concert in NYC last Tuesday. It was a bit flat and low-energy, IMHO, although the 3/4-capacity crowd was partly to blame. The Xmas song reinterpretations were interesting, though, and I bet the CD is great. Nellie MacKay was awesome, I have to get some of her stuff. Oh, and for some Hamer content: the guitar player, whatever his name is, was good, but I missed Julian Coryell's Newport stylings.

Opinions/price advice on Hiwatt Studio Stage?
burningyen replied to polara's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I have not heard good things about the Bulldogs. You should also consider Reeves amps if you want a Hiwatt-type amp. If you want a Vox-type amp, the Valvetech Hayseed and the AC30CC get good reviews. -

Do you still have the white parts? When you say they were nasty, what does that mean, they were grimey, or just didn't look cool? Sent you an e-mail. -
Salmon blush is no longer age-appropriate. I can help. Happy bday!

Awesome, congrats!

Haven't listened to a CD in a while. Been watching Pink Floyd's Pulse DVD. The more I study Gilmour the more amazing I think he is.

How high/low do you wear your axe?
burningyen replied to HamerHokie's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The trick for you chest-high guys is to tuck in your shirt and pull your pants up to your nipples. That would be cool. DavidE, you look very fetching in that dress. In between the gut and the peen: -

What amp do you use? A pedal can sound awesome with one amp and like $#!+ with another.
