  1. Didn't guys back in the day actually put holes in the speakers with pencils to get a distorted sound from it. If it was ok for the Kinks and a few others maybe leave it old school.
  2. I would put Alice in here for getting your monies worth, but he is also a top notch rock singer and when he wants to, he can do a wicked John Lennon imitation on some of his slower stuff. Plus his band is always top shelf and just smokes in concert.
  3. Does the bass player have a brother ? Got to love bass players. Hardly ever cause anybody any trouble.
  4. Big plus 1 on David Lee Roth's bluegrass period. I had the great misfortune of seeing him perform on two tv shows. I started to cry only after the shock wore off. It was like watching somebody jumping off a building.
  5. LOL all you want about John Rutsley but that first Rush album he was on was heavy rock. After that it was trees in the forrest and tom sawyer. Give me the working man anyday.
  6. Oh man. So close and yet so far from being Rick James punk. Sex slave to the stars. How come I never have a brush with destiny like that. I would like to think that I would step up to the plate and answer the call.
  7. Sirskelt, consider yourself lucky you never made it to the basement. He use to keep people down there and abuse them. That's what he went to jail for. Still, if you had a chance to score vintage equipment it might have paid off in the long run. Plus the stories you could have posted here would make you a star.
  8. Plus 1 for Billy Sheenan. I think he takes it to another level. I use to see him back in the early 70's with Tallas. They were from Buffalo and did the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse circuit every week. He had more toys than anybody and I remember him breaking bass strings all the time.
  9. Alcohol has made many bands great. My buddy was in a band and it was really just an excuse to get drunk while playing. He and the rest of the boys thought they were the nuts, going to be big on the local circuit, best band in town, until one night they decided to tape their show. Cringe. Reality sunk in a hurry. Three out of four realized they were much better players sober than drunk. The other still has to be loaded to be good, in his opinion. I read Alice Cooper's biography were he addresses his drinking problem. Many people tell him on how great some of those old albums sound during his drinking days and he just cringes to himself thinking how much better they could have been if sober.
  10. You think maybe large amount of alcohol had something to do with it ???
  11. Or as hard to keep clean like a black guitar.
  12. JPP was a great rocking blues band. Aerosmith was a train wreck at this time and Joe went in the right direction IMO. I got to see them live a couple of times. Joe was using strats and BC Rich's and running them through Music Man amps if I remember correctly.
  13. Damn Canadians are on the metric system. Don't think it will ever catch on with the rest of the world.
  14. BEAUITFUL. Cherish her forever.
  15. " Incoherent, lazy and incompetent ". Is that not why people become rock stars to begin with ?? All the really good ones fit that description.
  16. I like the 3 + 3 headstock. It seperates them from the pack. 3+3 or pointy, it really is no big deal because either way it is one fine guitar.
  17. I saw Crack the Sky a few times back in the day. One of the guitar players always had a Hamer. Usually a Special.
  18. Southern Culture on the Skids will be playing a music festival in July in Greenfield Ma. It's a two day event with Buddy Guy as the headliner.
  19. Anybody else think the Fountains of Wayne sound like a good pop rock band but are totally lame live ?? Look like a bunch of insurance agents who decided to get a band together after work.
  20. Besides the Sabbath influence, I also hear shades of Deep Purple and on one song a little bit of Jethro Tull.
  21. Have had the cd for a few months. They are pretty good. Riff rockers.
  22. I don't see why everyone is so worried about the guitar that I am going to win. I remember the photos and it is a beauty. And all you EMG bashers are not allowed to buy a ticket when it goes up for raffle. You guys really should stick to your principlies.
  23. Mid 70's AC DC, Thin Lizzy and Ronnie Montrose in Rochester NY. Ted Nugent Alice Cooper two years a go in Nevada.
  24. Two different animals if you ask me. Not so much tone wise, but style, balance and weight. I have had both. A 79 LP and a 81 Special. The LP is long gone but the Special is still here. That LP was a beauty but it weighed a ton and was very uncomfortable. I could get the same tone from the Hamer without the neck and shoulder pain and that became my number 1.
