Just one of the founding pillars of what is called progressive metal (along with Fates Warning, and early Queensryche) Mike Portnoy is revered by modern musicians as one mofo of a drummer. I'm a big fan of their music although i don't know the members that well, but a friend of mine tells me that MP is the one that keeps the contact with the fans, answering everything and going often to their forum. He's the most lovable and most visible member of the band, along with John Petrucci, the lead guitar and co-founder. I found it normal after 25 years that the guy wants a break. He's not only the drummer, he composes, do the musical arrangements and take cares of the fan base. I think he's entitled to say that he's a co-founder of the band. He was certainly one of its most active members. Those are HUGE shoes to step into...no kidding BTW, IMHO, he is better drummer than Petrucci is an axeman..and i play guitar.

I came here because i like music in general. I stayed because members here are friendly and funny as well as experienced, and because Hamer has become my standard for measuring guitars. I learn something new here every day, i've made friends, and i enjoy the humor. I bought my first Hamer USA with the help of the hundreds of post about models, specs etc. Right now i have 2 hamer specials and a californian imported...i still want another hamer. I would recommend Hamer to any serious guitarist. Is the best buy for the buck for anyone wanting to try different genres Is the best buy for the buck for a high quality guitar, and i don't even own newer, customized models... i don't see myself realisticlly buying anything else...not for now, Hamer offers indeed what i want.

+1 I LOVE Hamer, it is my standard to measure all the other brands it just makes me sad to see it gone a bit on the side because of their choice of going custom. But if that's was their original mision...well, let's wish them good luck...i'm worried that if they are only targetting baby boomers, once they're gone, and since Hamer might not be very know among newer generations of musicians, they will fall into oblivion... maybe that's actually the plan...

I'm affraid that the custom only move just made by Hamer will sunk it even further into oblivion... i understand and respect the philosophy behind the construction quality standards of Hamers -and for me, they are better than any new Gibson, anytime- But they will be loosing a big chunk of marketing by doing so. I wish they had a more streamline, mass produced shop, just for the new generation of guitar players out there If they only aiming for babyboomers, they won't be selling for long, so, for me it looks like a slow and decaying death... i wonder how many American shops can mass produce here in North America...it doesn't have to be a big production or anything, but it needs to be something more affordable, so the name will be more visible. I mean, the same mission that occupied them when they were producing in the 80s and 90s... i know i'm not very clear, but can you get my point??

Hello my fellow Hamerites!!!! Yesterday i was talking with a friend who was considering buying some electric gear. He already owns an astounding acoustic guitar (Martin) Here's the thing, my friend like to play blues, but from time to time, he would like to play some Nirvana. He's considering a Parker. I told him about my great experience with Hamer and also gave him a bunch of sites that talk about tone, pickups configurations, wood etc. Here are my questions: 1- what guitar would satisfy such particular tastes?? I'm sure Hamer has among the available models something that could fit in here (yeah, i'm biased, so sue me) but you can go with any brand 2-What amp?? He's considering playing small gigs and jams, so i was thinking of suggesting a standard amp or maybe a mini amp for traveling. so 2.1) which standard amp? 2.2) which mini amp for carrying around, maybe for small jams??
