cynic Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Are you able to hold a pick with your left hand? You might be reduced to campfire songs while developing your right hand for chording and your left hand for picking, but it flips the script in a way that adds some symmetry to the challenge of regaining some level of proficiency.
cmatthes Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I know we’ve exchanged messages recently, but seriously, if I can help in any way, let me know - I’m sure plenty of others here feel the same way, and we’re here for ya.
Dutchman Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Man I hate to hear this kind of stuff. I had spinal surgery for cancer, they cut out the back of my spine and lifted out the spinal cord to gently scrape off the cancer. I was paralyzed and had no feeling in my hands. By the grace of God I kept working at it and once again I can play fairly well. I can't shred like I used to but great to be able to play. I play sitting down cuz if I lift my leg to hit a pedal I fall over. Keep working at it!! Gains will be small but keep doing easy stuff. Play slide if you can! The joy of music is very healing in it's self!!! I will be Praying for your recovery!

My brother just went through a similar surgery for cancer on his spine that didn't effect his upper body but left him wheelchair-bound. It took about a year of relentless PT but he's back on his feet, with no walker or cane or anything. And he's 75. YOU GOT THIS, TOMMY!!

JES1680 Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Best wishes to you. A good firend of mine has been dealing with arthritis in his left had for years. He can't use his index finger and his ring is on the way out too. He's still able to fret some, but has taken up slide playing which helps keep him going.
diablo175 Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Fuuuuuuhhhhhhhqqqqqqqqqk. Dude, that sucks twice the normal level of suck. I'm truly feel for you. Shit happens and more often than not, it leads us to something else that can be counted on as a positive turn of events. Stay positive!
