guitarplayer1 Posted Wednesday at 02:31 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:31 PM Just bought a dead mint unplayed 1985 Steve Stevens I. I've wanted one of these for a long time and I'm curious about a few things: 1) What gauge strings did Hamer ship these with? 2) What pickups are in it? (I believe the single coils are made by Hamer and the Humbucker was by Duncan) I'll post some pics when it gets here but it literally looks new .... 5 Quote
0 velorush Posted Wednesday at 02:43 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:43 PM Welcome to the Hamer Fan Club! Strings should have been 0.10 to 0.46 (what Steve uses, anyway). Pickups were DiMarzio (stamped Hamer). Definitely post pictures when you receive it! 3 Quote
0 Bennyboy-UK Posted Wednesday at 03:32 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:32 PM I dug these out for you - I think these were what it shipped with… 1 2 Quote
0 guitarplayer1 Posted Wednesday at 04:35 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 04:35 PM Thanks for the replies! I use 10"s on everything and so I'll stick with those. I haven't owned a Floyd in 25 years ! This was very much an impulse buy as I've always liked that model and I love Hamers. Got my first hamer about two years ago ... Talladega Pro, which is a really great instrument. I lean very much towards traditional stuff so this SS is a very out there for me but I figured I'll have some fun with it. I really can't believe the condition it is in , according to the pics I got. Apparently it was purchased and never really played ... no fret wear and no damage whatsoever. For whatever reason, most SS guitars you see are beat to crap. From the serial number , I believe it was made in '85. 22 fret, strap button on upper horn, red with black hardware (the black hardware looks basically new which is really rare). I'm not 100% positive about scale length but I'm guessing it's more the Gibson 24 3/4" as I read Hamer put out a 25 1/2" version later (please correct me if I'm wrong). Here are some pics from the seller. Guitar is in transit. 6 Quote
0 The Shark Posted Wednesday at 10:11 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:11 PM Did that guitar, by any chance, come from Florida? Space Coast area? If not, there's another one. I'm lying in wait. 1 Quote

Yes, I've always thought Hamers were great guitars and criminally underpriced in the used market. When I saw the Talladega Pro come up on TGP I just couldn't resist. I had to buy it without ever playing one but I got a good deal and figured if it didn't work for me I could flip it. I ended up taking it to a gig the day after I got it and I've used it a bunch ever since. IMHO, it's the nicest and best sounding guitar Hamer ever made ..... this SS is a totally different beast and I was really looking for 1 guitar with a Floyd just so I had that option if I ever needed it ... the SS fit the bill. 4 Quote
0 guitarplayer1 Posted 16 hours ago Author Posted 16 hours ago Ok, got the guitar. The case has some wear but the actual guitar could be sold as new in a store ... it's kinda crazy. There is a bit of paint stuff on either side of the nut, not on the back of the headstock but on the sides ... which happened a lot even if you bought the thing in the store new. The guitar also came with unfilled warranty card which states the guitar was shipped with .009s. When tuned to pitch, the term is perfectly flat and I'm sitting there wondering if the strings have ever been changed ???? Yes ... that mint. The input jack does have some issues, I sprayed deoxit in there but it seems as though you have to be careful with that jack. Any ideas for further cleaning would be great ... also, as strange as this might sound ... there are 1/4" jacks that are just a touch bigger than others and it could be the jack on the planet waves cable is just a bit smaller ... in any case I'd love to hear thoughts on this. Neck feels pretty good to me, I'll string it up with some new stings in the next few days .. I want it to acclimate to the new environment before I set anything up .... seems like it just needs a new set of strings and possible intonation ... we will see. I'll take some more pics when I get a free moment and post here. I just look at it and think ... this thing is 41 years old???? 3 Quote
