Michael_ Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 What's it gonna be? They sell for about the same, are made of about the same stuff, and look alot alike. The Diablos bigger neck, dual buckers, and deeper cutaways make it more of a rock machine, while the Centaura's small neck and HSS configuration mean it's as versatile as it is cool looking. Which do you prefer, humble reader?
atquinn Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Diablo (I say this without having every played a Centaura, but my Diablo is sweet and I'm not a big fan of the SSH configuration).
KH Guitar Freak Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Like them both but I would have to say the Diablo Is & IIs are better...
kurtsstuff Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Diablo..hands down for me.....I have no use for any guitar that has any pickup in the middle..HSS,HSH etc...
Disturber Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Centaura!!! No competition. Hands down the beststrat like guitar I've ever played.
Michael_ Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 Centaura!!! No competition. Hands down the beststrat like guitar I've ever played. which begs the question:have you played a diablo?
KH Guitar Freak Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Btw... I do use a the middle single coil on my Diablo II...
Jeff R Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Centaura 2HB and a Centaura (off-center dots) fingerboard on the thicker Diablo-profile neck...
Hamer95USA Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Hey guys, I love both my Diablo II and Chapparal Elite 90. I like the alder body, neck and pickup configuration of the Diablo II as the Chapparal Elite 90 weighs a lot more due to the maple body. All of the Hamer super Strats are really well built guitars that offer high bang for the buck in the used guitar market. Guitar George
SirDouglas Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I have 1 diablo and 2 cents... but i prefer the diablo due to the roundness of the edges for playablilty... .. i like the neck on the cents better but wish they were a bit more round on the fret edges and not so damn flat... Randy
SouthernShred Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Diablo...Don't have any use for middle single coil on a shredder...
Jimbilly Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I like a single coil at the neck. I bought a sales sample/demo Diablo back in 96 or so, and took it back because I couldn't find clean tones I liked. My Centaura weighs about nothing, lets see... 7lb 2oz I think I'd like a Diablo II, don't those have tapped humbuckers?
silentman Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Diablo for me. I have a Diablo I and with only 2 buchers, it's very versitile.
BillW Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I prefer my diablo II over my centaura. Iprefer hte centaura over my Diablo I ...so ...uhh... I have no idea hwat that means. I play the Diablo II i got from (SouthernShred, I believe ??) live. But I much prefer Chaps in general- Bill
KH Guitar Freak Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I think I'd like a Diablo II, don't those have tapped humbuckers? Yes... and here's a pic of mine...
Disturber Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Centaura!!! No competition. Hands down the beststrat like guitar I've ever played. which begs the question:have you played a diablo? Yes, a couple of times. I bought the Centauranew in 1991 and tried it out side by side with the Diablo. I preferred the singlecoils to thedouble HB configuration. A matter of taste I guess. I always thought the Centaurawas very versatile. No shredder, more likea Stratocaster with floyd.
Jimbilly Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I still intend to find a Centaura II (2 reverse slant hums) and install coil tapped Rios.
Jeff R Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I still intend to find a Centaura II (2 reverse slant hums) and install coil tapped Rios. Instead of my faithful JB/59 combo for a two-buckered guitar, my Centaura 2HB has a Duncan Distortion in the bridge and a Duncan Jazz in the neck at the advice of Seymour himself via e-mail. I'm absolutely elated with the results - the Jazz has less low-mid and more single coil-like articulation compared to a '59, and the Distortion doesn't add "hot" as much as it adds an upper midrange slice. Harmonics jump out of this thing and the pickups' volumes balance out perfectly.I have 'em wired to a five way blade so that I can get outside-coils-hum-cancelling in the 4 position and inside-coils-hum-cancelling in the 2 position. I have so many useful sounds in this guitar it's just sick. And I still haven't rewired the useless midrange mini-toggle to do something useful yet.
black magic Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I have owned basically all of them and couldn`t stand the skinny necks of the Centaura and Cali`s, liked the medium necks of the Diablo, but not a bolt on guy, my favorite is the Chappy Customs, but couldn`t stand the middle pickup, hell, I don`t even use neck pickups!! Jack.
jettster Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I like them both. I have a Diablo I and II as well as a Centaura. My favorite is the Diablo II.
holLoWskull Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I've owned both a 1990 Centaura and a 1993 Diablo I. The Diablo is long gone but the Centaura is still with me. Both about equally nice guitars but for me it was the factory stock Dunlop 6100 jumbo frets on the Centaura combined with insanely low action that win out over the chunkier neck profile and more sculpted body lines of the Diablo. +1 for Centaura for me plus the fretboard inlays are cooler!
bigjel Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Diablo for me as well. I have 2 Centauras and a Chap, all of which are great, but I always go back to the Diablo when playing live, even in front of my Dayglo Steve Stevens. It has never let me down and has a great range of tones.
Jorge Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Short-scale Chaparral.Best thing Hamer has ever made, and they have made tons of amazing stuff.
