Where to find boxes to ship guitars?

I've done this several times before, but can't for the life of me remember where I got boxes that fit (electric in a hard case). Any thoughts for boxes, free or otherwise?

Mark -- ask the guys at Guitar Center for one. I've had luck doing that, as well as checking out their dumpster.

Also... a neighbor bought a Little Giant ladder. Amazing how the box it came in resembles a guitar box, lol. Just needs to be cut down a bit.

The winter NAMM show is around the corner. By the end of January the music stores will be getting new guitars in and have plenty of boxes to throw away.

If I can't bum a discarded box from my local guitar dealer, I have a local packing and shipping supply store that has this big machine that cuts custom boxes to buyer specs. They punch in the dimensions I give them and out spits the box, for about $10, and I don't have to cut anything down or use stoopid amounts of fill material or padding. Call around and see if there is a store like that near you.

The U-line boxes rock... I haven't had to beg or dumpster

dive in years... In addition, shipping in a well sized brand new

box will likely help help you in case you ever have a damage

claim...

BTW: I get the 20 X 8 X 50 size, a little big but if you ever

need to ship internationally they are just under the size restriction

Me: Hi. I'll be shipping a few guitars and I'm short some boxes. Is there a way that I could pick up some that you'd be discarding?

S.A.D: Well, it's almost noon now. We usually cut them up at around 11:00 before we put them in the dumpster. It saves space that way.

Me: Sure that makes sense. So, you've already cut up all you'll get today?

S.A.D: Yes, that's right. If you call when we open, we can hold a few for you.

Me: When do yo open?

S.A.D: 11:00.

Me: You cut them up at 11:00 and you open at 11:00?

S.A.D: Yes, that's right. If you call then, we can hold a few for you.

Me: Well, can I just ask you today to set some on the side for me tomorrow?

S.A.D: No, we usually cut them up at 11:00 before we put them in the...

Me: Yea, I remember that part, but how do I call when you open if you have already cut up the boxes?

S.A.D: Sometimes we cut them up before we open, sometimes shortly after.

Me: So, I should call at 11:00 and take my chances.

S.A.D: Yes, that's right.

Me: Would you typically answer the phone before you open.

S.A.D: No. Not usually.

Me: ...and there's no way I can ask you to set some on the side for me tomorrow?

I didn't hear the rest. It was a combination of blood streaming out of my ears and me slamming the receiver down and breaking the phone.
