Bruiser Brody Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Two Words: PRS Singlecut.A friend of mine and regular gigger (rough shows too) got one of these. It's not bad!!
DavidE Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I'm quite happy with my Japanese made Edwards (ESP) LP Std.
Jeff R Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Okay, let's hear it from the Singlecut supporters...because I'm kinda shopping for a LP Standard too and a good friend is trying to talk me into the PRS instead. My friend has a '79 LP Artist that he absolutely loves but he also has over 30 Singlecuts, all of them in odd/rare colors or with odd/rare features. He told me he's picking up a goldtop Singlecut in a trade deal next week and he's offered it to me (I guess he already has a gold one). I also have a lead on a very dark teal colored one with a decent flametop. Also used.I've only played two Singlecuts - both were decent but both needed setups and re-strings very badly (both were used and borderline neglected pieces at Guitar Centers) so I really couldn't assess just how good they were/are.
hardheartedbill Posted February 10, 2007 Author Posted February 10, 2007 I dunno, I've never really messed w/ PRS and am basicly going for the whole LP visual/sonic thang, plus I heard they were over 10lbs as a rule, I'm wanting under 10
kurtsstuff Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I just bought a 2002 PRS Singlecut and looking forward to getting it on monday...I'm soo done with Les Pauls
hardheartedbill Posted February 10, 2007 Author Posted February 10, 2007 got a line on a 2001 LP standard goltop, any thoughts on these?
Dumo Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 got a line on a 2001 LP standard goltop, any thoughts on these?I got an Edwards Jimmy Page Relic LP w/ Super Circuit. This would be perfect for you. It's lightweight, versatile, don't have to worry about damage. Only bad thing is you have to buy a hardcase. I got a shopworn Gibby case for about half retail and it fits perfect. Highly recommended. In fact, the guy who sold it to me had a Gibson JP too and said the Edwards was better. I'm looking to buy a P90 equipped Edwards in a couple weeks. And yes I 've played a crapload of LPs so I know what I'm talking about.
serial Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 When I wanted a Les Paul a year ago, I looked around at any number of options, but in the end nothing was going to satisfy my LP jones unless it said "Gibson" on the headstock. Ended up with an R4 goldtop. I loved everything about it except for the pickups. Took care of that and I absolutely love that guitar. Played it most of last night, but it got to humming and I forgot to bring that one extra cable I needed to hook up the Decimator. Sometimes, only the original will do-at least for me.
Turdus Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 got a line on a 2001 LP standard goltop, any thoughts on these?I've got a 2003 Gold Top. I believe that there are differences between mine and a 2001, perhaps cosmetics only... not sure... Mine has a vintage style headstock with the plastic tulip tuners. All of the appointments are very vintage, by the way.... thin binding in cutaway, no "Standard" on truss rod cover, plastic jack plate, etc.Great guitar, but I really don't like the pickups.
kizanski Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 When I wanted a Les Paul a year ago, I looked around at any number of options, but in the end nothing was going to satisfy my LP jones unless it said "Gibson" on the headstock. Mine says "Gibson" on the headstock...
cmatthes Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Chris B. - are you talking about the Deluxe or a Standard goldtop?

BONEDADYO Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 My 1979 Custom: Sometimes it just needs to be a Gibson.

DavidE Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 If you don't need "Gibson" on the headstock:http://thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=214427I think his price is on the high side though. Mine has the stock duncans and I paid $570 shipped with a Gibson hardshell case.
gwayne Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 What happened to your Black LP Custom? Right here - and it ain't goin' NOWHERE!!!
Guest Meshuggah Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 When I wanted a Les Paul a year ago, I looked around at any number of options, but in the end nothing was going to satisfy my LP jones unless it said "Gibson" on the headstock. Mine says "Gibson" on the headstock... Swap you a Baker for it, plus cash of course.
Turdus Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Chris B. - are you talking about the Deluxe or a Standard goldtop?Yo Christoph!I am talking about a Standard. I sold the Deluxe a few months back.CB
phoenix Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Bill, I loved the PRS too but is too heavy for your requirements. The best deal on used reissues are the goldtops. Same wood makeup as the bursts so you can cover the sounds. Plus I have extra PAF's if you dont like what it comes with. You might be able to find a light one without going weight-relief or cloud 9. I see sub 8lb historic reissues on TGP fairly frequently.
cmatthes Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Swap you a Baker for it, plus cash of course. Yeah, but wouldn't that be like swapping a Hamer for a Hamer or a PRS for a PRS or a Melancon for a... Never mind!
