cmatthes Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Just got a heads-up on these - I really think these look great. Check out the blog update... New Earthen Maple shots!
tomteriffic Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 They're certainly distinctive! They look like they might be one of those "either you like them or you don't" kind of deals, with not much middle ground. I like 'em.
LordOfTheThighs Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 It's different. But those Victory inlays, just never have appealed to me. I guessI better get used to them ... or dots.
MCChris Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 The lack of love for the victories surprises me. I dig 'em.Regarding the guitar, between these, the Redwoods and the Triple Threats, Hamer's come out with some great limited runs lately.
cmatthes Posted January 15, 2008 Author Posted January 15, 2008 Agreed. I'll always dig the crowns on a Standard, but I prefer the vics on my M3. I don't think crowns would look right on that one for some reason.
kizanski Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 "Earthen Maple," as opposed to the celestial kind.
elduave Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Regarding the guitar, between these, the Redwoods and the Triple Threats, Hamer's come out with some great limited runs lately.Yeah, but I wish they'd do one on something other than a Studio platform.Agreed. I'll always dig the crowns on a Standard, but I prefer the vics on my M3. I don't think crowns would look right on that one for some reason. You really ARE telling me to spray paint my MONS black, aren't you? "I hate 1st fret Crowns!""Crowns don't look good on a Monaco!"Have to agree with you. I was green. BUT, still the best guitar I own.
cmatthes Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Nope - I'm just talking about my particular M3!I personally don't like the 1st fret crown/Vic on ANY guitar, but that's just my own preference.
darc Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 They look like they might be one of those "either you like them or you don't" kind of deals, with not much middle ground. You forgot "love them". Put me down for "love them".
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Love it. I despise the uniform, pinstripe maple tops that are all the rage. Hell, I am not even a fan of bookmatching...LOL!!! The Redwoods were a great idea but they missed the boat by not making them hollow, and I didn't like the uniformity of the wood. Redwood should look like this... Hamer is not the only one making this mistake though...I see all the builders looking for that bookmatched/striped look, which tells me that I am in the minority on this issue. This Earthen guitar looks like a homerun... Great job Hamer!!!!
jisham Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Not my cup of tea, but the photography is stunning per usual. What is "earthen maple" -- is it just a term for a different kind of top or is it an alternative type of maple? Kinda appears similar to spalted maple to me.

Steve Haynie Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I think Jol said he does not want to use spalted wood for anything. That is his choice. I think spalted tops can look interesting.
Jeff R Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Kinda like swamp ash. 'Cept it's swamp maple. Gorgeous stuff! If they shot a plank of that with a transparent cherry-jello red, with a matching jello-red headstock veneer, oh my poor wallet - 'cause my wife would have called the divorce attorney already.
Devnor Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I really love these guitars but I'd rather not have a chambered version - they dont seem to work well for the high gain stuff I'm perpetually doing. Unfortunately I'm probably out on this one.

You can add the 25th limited to those on MC Chris list. I would really like to see something updated. Hamerica
HamerHokie Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 "Earthen Maple," as opposed to the celestial kind.I'll bet they sound muddy.
