MR714 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 There are 2 pages of pics of Fenders, Gibsons and his new PRS, but the word Hamer isn't typed even once! Anyone shocked besides me or am I out of the loop?

Steve Haynie Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 The Scepter was on the cover of his solo album, GilRock Ranch. In concert I saw him use one of his orangish Super-Strats and got a guitar pick on the 7 Wishes tour. He used large steel picks.
cmatthes Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Brad also played a version of his red Strat with a Hamer neck (Bigazzed stadium logo and all) for many years. He mentioned last week at the taping EL and I attended that the #1 red Strat is, and always be, his "go-to" guitar.
Guest JackButler Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 IIRC, that WAS "THE" red strat.. I've got the Guitar World with him and Jeff on the cover when "Man In Motion" came out and he says in that interview that its the red strat with a "Hamer 3 pc stressed neck system" replacement neck.
Andrew Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 The Scepter:http://uk.geocities.com/largeat/gillis1.jpg
rmahurin Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I saw NR last night in Brookville, IN. Good show; Brad was great, and the guy they hired to portray the role of Watson nailed it.
HamStd Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 The Scepter: http://uk.geocities.com/largeat/gillis1.jpg The Scepter indeed!!!! He asked about including it in the article (very long story). Hamer also did one in White for him, same S/S/H configuration (thanks BadgerDave for the heads up on this one!!!). Hamer also made a Scepter for Jack Blades too. Jeff doesn't like explorers, but is a big fan of Vees, So Hamer has made him a few so he could join the pointy guitar club. Enjoy. Peter P.S. The "Red guitar" resides in a very safe place now.
elduave Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 He asked about including it in the article (very long story). DMK, LI!
Guest JackButler Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Peter, you should post a pic of how carved up the back is with the channel that Brad and his brother put the wireless antennae wire into.
ac15 Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 The article was mostly about his awesome vintage guitar collection, so the fact that they didn't mention Hamer was no big deal to me. His guitar collection is incredible. However, the other article in the same issue about Dean guitars was negligent in not mentioning Hamer. The article was about how Dean was an upstart company capitalizing on the declining quality of Gibsons of the time. It went on to mention other upstart "new" guitar comnpanies of the mid 70's such as Kramer and one or two others. There was no mention of Hamer at all which I thought was odd in that context.

Hamer was already a couple years into guitar building before Dean did his first one.
bruce919 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 If you watch the Hearts Away Video, you can see the Brad play the Septer. I never knew of the White Septer, where is that one now? AS for the Strat Hamer built Brad , it had several necks on it before Brad I think just gave up. I think the final version had LED's in it.
cmatthes Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 The red "strat" with the Hamer neck I'm talking about is a complete Hamer guitar. It's different than the red strat above - I've got pics of it that I'll have to dig up.
zorrow Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 So, Brad Gillis wanted to include Hamer in the article, but the story is long... Ok Peter, I think I'm willing to listen to it anyway! BTW, that Vee is too pointy for my tastes but it is cool as hell. Great stuff!

It currently resides in a very safe place. The Hamer "Red Guitar" actually has Running LEDs and a built in wireless, Don't forget the Red Doubleneck Cali that was in the "Reaction" Large format Hamer catalog that was made for Brad. Peter

Peter Peter: Wasn't Brad's red Strat (the main one) an early 60s body that had tons of different necks over the years? That's what my dusty memory chips are telling me... VERY cool stuff, as usual, sir!
cmatthes Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 The "Main" red strat and the Hamer-necked version are two different guitars.
Guest JackButler Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 The main one wasn't even originally red.. Brad and his brother painted it red to match Brad a Ferrari color.. I can't remember if they painted the neck black or if it was a different neck.. I know it had more than one neck on it though.. Peter's on speaking terms with Gillis.. he should have more info.

How can I get those HamStd@gmail.com inlays on my guitars?
Jones Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Wasn't there a "flying W" made for Watson as well - a doubleneck flying v? I think I remember seeing pics of that one...
cmatthes Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Yes - it was in a late-80s Hamer ad and catalog as well.
HamStd Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Wasn't there a "flying W" made for Watson as well - a doubleneck flying v? I think I remember seeing pics of that one... The white doubleneck was sold to the HardRock. Hamer made an black version for him too.. The "Flying W" is in a very secure place right now. Peter.
