lesterpaul Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 ...I just recently got BRIDGE OF SIGHS ...cd version..lost the cassette some time ago....it is one of my top 5 of all times-every song is perfect for each other-it is a cohesive piece of rock music that you can put on and listen to from alpha to omega-ahhh, I love hearin' that cold wind blow..-picked up a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe at about the same time I bought the cd....yes, I have dusted off the strat again...man, that James Dewar could really belt out Robin's songs as well.....how 'bout "A Little Bit O' Sympathy"..."Too Rollin' Stoned"etc......man, a good collection!
vikingrat Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 For me it would be Blackmore on Highwaystar or Eric Bell's playing on the first Lizzy record. I love Trower though. I got to see him at H.O.B and just couldn't get enough.
SteveB Posted July 28, 2008 Author Posted July 28, 2008 it is one of my top 5 of all times-every song is perfect for each other-it is a cohesive piece of rock music that you can put on and listen to from alpha to omega-ahhhIt certainly is one of those rare albums where the whole thing works. One of my top five desert island discs as well.
Boogie1 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 That is an IMPOSSIBLE question to answer! My brain almost shorted out trying to think of an answer! My favorite Strat players? That's hard enough! No particular order..........HendrixBlackmoreJake E. LeeTrowerSRVGilmourFruscianteI know there's so many more...........!
JohnnyB Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 WHAT???No nominations yet for Mark Knopfler and "Sultans of Swing"?
gwayne Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 WAY too many good Strat songs, but IMO Bridge of Sighs is the ultimate Univibe tune.
cmatthes Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Took the words right outta my mouth, JohnnyB. Actually most of the early Dire Straits stuff fits that bill, as does "Little Wing" by Jimi and the entire Dada catalog.
Willie G. Moseley Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I've got TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY and BRIDGE OF SIGHS on one CD. Not a bad track on the whole she-bang.I'd take "Day of the Eagle" over "Bridge of Sighs", but would rank it behind:"Still I'm Sad" (Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow) "Telegraph Road" (Dire Straits), which "out-licks" (if that's an appropriate term) "Sultans of Swing", IMO"Comfortably Numb""Numena" segueing into "The Spy Who Ate Her" (Cosmosquad). One seems indispenable w/o the other.
lesterpaul Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 WHAT???No nominations yet for Mark Knopfler and "Sultans of Swing"?...wooo...yes...that is one of my"standard" tones to shoot for when dialing in a Strat-ummm,tasty!!!that outro solo still gets me..
RacerX Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 For me, Blackmore, Beck, and Trower are the ultimate Strat slingers.I know, I know, there are tons of great ones...Jimi/SRV/on and on. But those 3 just get my blood flowing. Thanks for the link, I just might have to pull out a few Strats tonight!Mark.
edgar_allan_poe Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 This is number two on my list. Here is my top 5.1. Wind Cries Mary2. Bridge of Sighs3. People Get Ready 4. Sultans of Swing5. Burn (the intro is the perfect Strat tone IMHO) or Peace Pipe from Cry of Love.
BONEDADYO Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Little Wing-Hendrix & SRVRiviera Paradise-SRVBig Log-Robert Plant
vikingrat Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Little Wing-Hendrix & SRVRiviera Paradise-SRVBig Log-Robert PlantRobbie Blunt!!!!
Mike Lee Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Lenny by SRV has to be in there as well. All Along the Watchtower as covered by Hendrix should be in there also. And Bold As Love, and Castles Made of Sand, and...I guess it really depends on what you think the ultimate Strat tone is. For me it's the neck/middle combo or the neck alone. The bridge/middle is next, but I don't much care for bridge only or middle only. So almost every song I would consider would have that Hendrix/SRV ballad tone.Bridge of Sighs IS the ultimate Univibe song, definitely agree with gwayne on that.
BONEDADYO Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Little Wing-Hendrix & SRVRiviera Paradise-SRVBig Log-Robert PlantRobbie Blunt!!!!Thanks! I ment to add his name in brackets!
lesterpaul Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 ummmm....Blackmore...yes-a muscular and stout tone...and "Peace Pipe"ooooooooooh!!!!..a little Audley Freed...Clapton is the KING of the Strat, but many of these,as stated before, really get my "blood boiling''...much loike humbuckin' songs....I am sure Eliot Easton has some Strat love, but methinks it might have been more Tele.....??
zzdat Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 The solo in the Dobbie Brothers "Take me in your arms and rock me a little while" always gives me the strat jones as far as tone. The perfect between 1 and 2 position quack.Cool BeansGene
Hamer of the gods Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 "Lenny" "Riviera Paradise" "Bridge of Sighs" "Cause we've ended as lovers" Can't choose just one!
Boogie1 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 No Slowhand? I vote for Bell Bottom Blues. No Slowhand? I vote for Bell Bottom BluesWasn't Clapton still an SG and LP guy during the Derek Days? I could be mistaken..........
