Gonna Raise Hell!

gonnaraisehell.jpg

I'll be seeing CT this week - not sure if this one'll make it out, but he pretty much ALWAYS plays it for at least one song.

I'll be seeing them Sept 28th and will look out for the guitar. Cool story and interesting that RN still goes to Hamer for such things.

Oh MAN, that's cool! I'm going to see them Thursday as well (8/28)-I've never seen him NOT play that one!

Did I say "I Love Hamer" today yet? :)

"....we pondered the idea of creating a "modern" replacement. It may be time to raise a little more hell for old time's sake."

Tease! :)

That was really cool!

I will be seeing CT tonight at Nissan Pavillion in Virginia. Don't forget about all of the other classic Hamer products these guys use !! Basses, 12 strings, and of course Rick's collection. What's the chance of seeing Rick with something new???

Tom unfortunately, hasn't played Hamer stuff in a while, although he did invent that with Hamer. Rick still plays a lot of cool stuff, old and new and so does Robin now and again.

If I wasn't going to Hershey tomorrow night, I'd be at Nissan tonight. The 4 tickets for $75 was a pretty good deal...

Of course, dealing with the traffic on 66 to Nissan on a weekday is probably as bad as it gets around here, and DC has the second worst traffic congestion in the US by most reports. I'd almost have to leave now to catch the CT slot! :)

It'll probably be quicker for me to drive up to Hershey tomorrow than it would be to hit Nissan from DC!

Now if they'd only still do re-fins for the common man's Hamer.

They didn't refin the "GRH" Standard - just fixed the locking nut issues. That one is still a road dog!

Admittedly I didn't have the greatest seats, but I saw CT with Heart and Journey in Saratoga Springs, NY a few nights ago and it looked like Tom was the only one playing a Hamer most of the night. It looked like some multi-string Monaco looking contraption, but again I wasn't close enough to get a great look. Rick was playing a Les Paul most of the evening and only busted out a couple Hamers towards the end of their 40 min. set (they were the opening band).

Tom has been playing the Waterstone 12'vers for the last few years. He started playing them after his 5 years or so with Chandler (TP Sig Model). That was after playing Hiroshi Kid's 12'vers for a couple of years, which is what he played after he stopped playing B-12As in 95/96 or so.

I've got to dig up some pics of me with the GRH Hamer. I swiped the strings off it during a pre-show set-up. Good 'ol Dean Mitchell.

I did get Journey/Heart/CHEAP TRICK tics today for Sept. 10th. Shed show. Saw the Doobs about 8 hours ago... Great show!

I know they didn't.

I was just hoping they still offered that service.

Maybe when things slow down in New Hartford lol!

Agreed - until then, we can all dream, eh?! :)

I wish they had time to do another Factory Open House tour.

Saw Rick and the boys last night. No "Gonna Raise Hell" Standard though. He shook it up a bit (no pun intended) and didn't play the 5 neck on "Surrender". Used a '58 Explorer on one tune, his '60 LP Standard (the real one) on "IWY2WM" and of course "Enola" on "Dream Police". Other than a Gretsch Billy Bo thing, the LP with the Explorer headstock and an R9 (didn't look like Phoenix's), he was all Hamer. Other Hamers that made it out were the "Rockford" cover Hamer, the "Sgt. Pepper" Hamer and a couple custom Standards including the pick collage one. No Uncle Dick either... Robin had a couple Hamers including a Newport 12.

Great show by Trick and Heart was really good. Craig Bartock is a fantastic player, Ann sounded fantastic and Nancy was, well Nancy. In a good way.

Journey's new vocalist was a strange sight on stage. Not so much how he looked but the combination of looking at this little guy you've never seen before and hearing Steve Perry in his prime. Weird-but this guy was good. We left about 2/3 into Journey's set-they got REALLY loud for some reason and on quieter songs. I was ten rows back dead center, but nothing bothered me all night until

"Separate Ways". Good lord it was painfully loud.

Thanks again to Serial for the hookup - great show - great seats too!

Always nice to see CT and Hamers in action. Heart was excellent, and CB is an enormously talented guitarist. Agreed that both of the Wilson sisters have amazing voices, and can still hit even those "scary" notes. Cool covers of "Love Reign O'er Me" and "Goin' To California" in there too, and Nancy did a cool Zepretrospective on acoustic for a bit as a prelude to "Crazy On You". She is a very underrated guitarist - solid rhythm player and of course, still incredibly hot...

Journey was also really good - better than the last time I saw them with Jeff Scott Soto. I thought the new guy (Arnel Pineda) was maybe 20-25, but was surprised that he just turned 40. Lotsa energy and the guy's got the pipes for the job alright. Neal Schon played his parts exactly to the record, maybe with a few hundred extra notes tossed in at times. That guy's a machine. Hearing some of their great 5 part harmonies (yep, FIVE!) really makes your hair stand on end!

Does anyone remember how long Cheap Trick played and does Dean Mitchell still work for Rick?

My friend that's going with me doesn't really know C.T. that well. I figure I can make a sampler c.d.

Trick and Heart have been getting 40-45 minutes on this tour. Not sure about Dean.

That "58" Explorer he uses on "if you want my love" is a 79 Explorer we bleached and modded to match his real 58 because the real one has just gotten too worn to keep using on the road. You can see it in the photo at the bottom of my posts where he is showing it to Joe Perry the day he got it back from us. We will be hooking up with the a week from tonight as we pick up a guitar from Rick for some work and deliver a repaired 64 white Thunderbird bass to Tom.
