GusS Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 you just pay from credit card, but even if you get scammed and they can't get to your money they'll block your account or whatever until you pay up which still sucks
JohnnyB Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 This is one reason E Bay's policy of no negative feedback for buyers struck me as a joke. There are plenty of scammers posing as buyers too. Several years ago I'd already been hearing horror stories from people selling electronics and music gear on E Bay, having their buyers claim the item arrived DOA, then receiving the item back only to find it had been raided for parts.I used to habituate a pawn shop that has since closed. One of the last times I talked to the owner, he'd about given up on selling on eBay--especially electronics--because this is exactly what was happening to him. He'd sell it and ship it, the buyer would dispute complain it was DOA, seller'd refund the money and the guy would ship back a true DOA because he'd pulled the tubes and whatever else was of value inside. What I want to know is--how come when I bought a Nintendo 64, paid by PayPal, never received the console, and filed a formal complaint with PayPal within the dispute time, I didn't get a refund and all they did was give him a bad mark of some kind? Oooh, and I left him bad feedback. Big deal.So how come Paypal makes it so easy to scam an honest seller, but was no damn good for this buyer who really got cheated?
atquinn Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Another good reason to always make sure you have your money where PayPal can't touch it. How do you fund your paypal account?Have a separate checking account that you use to receive money from Paypal. As soon as you get money from Paypal, transfer it to this account and then transfer it out to a separate account. If there is a dispute, there's no way for Paypal to get to your money. They will put a freeze on your account, which is a bummer, but I personally don't need Paypal enough to be worried about that. On the other hand, I've never been scammed as a buyer or seller and I've been using it for years, so it's not really a concern for me at this point. As far as paying goes, I always use a credit card anyway (that way I have 2 layers of protection).-Austin

PayPal requires you to have a CC on file as backup to the checking account, how do you get around that?
Armitage Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Your shipping bill should show the weight going and coming back.
santellavision Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 Your shipping bill should show the weight going and coming back.Yes, I have all the shipping info, and have submitted that. But anyone that has dealt with PayPal knows, they are nearly non-human, and are run almost solely by auto decisions. You can't speak to the person who makes the decisions.

santellavision Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Still waiting on PayPal to render a decision. They are really taking their time. I should know any time if I get my money back or not.
DaveL Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Still waiting on PayPal to render a decision. They are really taking their time. I should know any time if I get my money back or not. did you try calling the customer service number. 866-775-8151 (it appearsonce you log in). Last week, I had a minor issue and I got a live person inabout 30 seconds and was off the phone in about a minute... curious, was there a large weight differential between the outgoing and returnpackage?
santellavision Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 curious, was there a large weight differential between the outgoing and returnpackage? Yes, there was. The outgoing box was 38lbs and the return was 9lbs. I submitted all that to Paypal. It's now over a month. I received an email two days ago, and they are still investigating. This is insane!
santellavision Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Update!!!I just got an email from Paypal. They want me to ship the partial return the guy sent me (the amp case) Not sure why, but they state, I will get my refund when they receive the item. (I have to ship it to some company called Liquidity Services, Inc. in Texas) Crazy, but OK, whatever. I'm shipping it today.I'll believe it when I see my refund. Let's see what happens in a few days when they get it.
hamertek98 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 They're probably gonna sell the rack to get some money back after refunding you. I hope the other guy doesn't get away with this.

santellavision Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 SUCCESS!!!!I finally got my damn money back from PayPal. It was like pulling teeth. It took over 2 months, countless phone calls, 14 pieces of evidence and 4 faxes. But, they sent me all my money back. (I did have to ship the empty case to them though) Paypal ended up eating the money. The buyer got his money returned too. I think they were just fed-up with me and my barrage of evidence/info. The last time I called them, the guy opened the file and and 'Wow' there's a lot of stuff here. So, the moral of the story, don't give up and beat them into submission.

That's pretty good, I think it says something for having your documentation together and being a persistent Mofo... scary to think what would have happened if the guy put a couple bricks in the box...
veatch Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Great to hear. Congrats. Persistence almost always pays off on those things.
Feynman Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 The buyer gets his money back and an amp for free?
santellavision Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Yes sir. He got the amp and his money back. Don't get any ideas guys. This sucked.
specialk Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Yes sir. He got the amp and his money back. Don't get any ideas guys. This sucked. That does suck, Ernie! At least you got your money back from PayPal. Makes me want to avoid ebay more and more. Of course, not having any money, I already pretty much avoid it, Any chance you'd want to post the buyers (stealers) ebay name here so we can avoid him in the future?
