Feynman Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I have only a question, but with the eBay link I assume it should go in this forum. My friend has decided to sell his other NOS Hamer purchase on eBay. He has received a question about it not saying "Special" on the headstock. My '93 did. His '97 doesn't. Did Hamer stop using them at some point, or was it hit or miss, or ... Thanks. Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...=tab%3DWatching
cmatthes Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Yes - Hamer stopped using that decal when the supply ran out - probably @ mid-90s.
Feynman Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Great - thanks. How did I ever live pre-HFC?
Guest pirateflynn Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 How did I ever live pre-HFC? My guess is that you lived a much more productive life and with some cash in your pocket!
HamerHokie Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I had a '94 and it didn't say Special on the headstock.
Aceldama Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 When a special grows up and doesn't need all the constant re-affirmation, it no longer needs to be called special because it KNOWS it's special.
specialk Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 My 93 Special (non-FM) doesn't say Special on the headstock either. I can provide the serial number if anyone's interested.
JGale Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 When a special grows up and doesn't need all the constant re-affirmation, it no longer needs to be called special because it KNOWS it's special.NOT if it grew up in one of those pinko households that tortured its children with Mr. Rogers!
Feynman Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Just a bump to mention it as a PSA. This is my good friend's other NOS Hamer snag. He has decided to keep only the T51, so this one is up for grabs. It's "mint" and appears to be unplayed; from the same guitar store stock as the wraptail he just sold. He's also a really good guy. DaveL Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 That's actually a pretty cool guitar. I don't think I've seen one that clean in a long time. There aren't that many 97 FM's and P-90 specials compared to earlier years. I've always chased them because they thickened up the neck profiles slightly compared 93's
crunchee Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 That's actually a pretty cool guitar. I don't think I've seen one that clean in a long time. There aren't that many 97 FM's and P-90 specials compared to earlier years. I've always chased them because they thickened up the neck profiles slightly compared 93's+1!I once had a '93 TV Yellow Special that didn't have the 'Special' moniker on the headstock, and it was a skinny neck/mini Schaller tuner version--but I HAVE seen Specials with it, from that time frame too. I once had a '92 USA Sunburst Archtop (now the Studio Custom, I think) that had the 'Sunburst' name on the headstock, and I think I have seen early 90's versions of the USA Studio that had that name on the headstock, too. Cruise Basses used to have this as well, but I think this pretty much all went away by '93 or '94 (except for the 25th Anniversary model). I'm not including the Sunbursts from the late '70's/early '80's, I count those as their own animal.
Feynman Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 "auction ends this weekend" bump for a good friend.I got to see this guitar. I dislike the term "mint," so I will say it's 99.999999999.He's also listed a Les Paul Standard Premium Turbo Ultra Plus if anyone wants one of those. Thanks for looking.
Pieman Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 this might not be proper, but isn't $63 for shipping a bit high?
Feynman Posted April 10, 2009 Author Posted April 10, 2009 this might not be proper, but isn't $63 for shipping a bit high?Fair question. I said the same thing myself.I thought so, too, but that's what his last shipment cost in the guitar box he has. I think he just ended up with a box that was a little too large to keep it inexpensive.I suggested that he cut the length down, and he will do what he can to minimize the cost. He also updated the listings to state that he would refund the shipping difference if it turned out to be less.I think it's too high as well, but it seems to vary based on the shipping distance.I know he's not out to make any money on shipping for what it's worth.
Bennyboy-UK Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Hi chaps, - my 93 Special FM doesn't have i either (assuming it is a 93 - SN 335041)Looks like the inclusion or ommission is fairly widespread over the whole period ?Cheers,Ben
crunchee Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 This looks like a early Studio, though the headstock says Special:http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-Hamer-Archtop-Spec...%3A1%7C294%3A50Here's a Studio with a label:http://cgi.ebay.com/Hamer-USA-1996-Studio-...%3A1%7C294%3A50I have no affiliation with either, BTW.
Punkavenger Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 my 95 Special FM has no "special" decal but my 96 Cruise bass has a "cruise bass" decal (which looks really cool BTW) ... go figure!
