atquinn Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Wow, I was so not in the running for that! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=260399868646 -Austin
Feynman Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 The world has gone mad I think.Makes that one-off Centaura seem reasonable.
hamerboy_ Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 If I wasn't in the right mind, I'd sell my dozen-or-so Chap's and retire. -Bobby
DavidE Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 You guys are obviously morons. This guitar is worth SO MUCH MORE! :-)"Q: this guitar should have had a reserve put on it, it is worth more that 2000 dollars they will never make them again, how do i know i have 7 over them in my private collection. they are very rare. Just a bit of advice. God bless. May-01-09A: THANKS FOR THE INFO"
holLoWskull Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 The world has gone mad I think. Makes that one-off Centaura seem reasonable. It has gone mad, but I have a feeling it's mainly for the sorted lure of MOP boomerang inlays on jet black ebony fretboards If that had rosewood and dots, I doubt it would have broken the $900 mark (FWIW the only two Hamer necks I ever had any issues with have been ebony/boomeranged over highly figured maple necks....so looks aren't always everything). FWIW I doubt her Mom actually paid $2000 for that guitar back in 1990. When I bought my 1990 Chap Elite back then, the actual retail (not list) was closer to half that amount.
veatch Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 It has gone mad, but I have a feeling it's mainly for the sorted lure of MOP boomerang inlays on jet black ebony fretboards I was beginning to think so too, but then there was this: Chap with Boomers I don't think the ad or the pictures helped the seller much, but still, <$600 seems to be a bit of a bargain for that one?
cmatthes Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Some idiot just paid too much for a guitar. Also - Holoskull is correct. There is no way that guitar sold for anywhere NEAR $2,000 back in 1990.

Aargh! That ended today? Sh*t.
bubs_42 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Fact is that Shredders are back in the Mainstream. Hamer made some of the best period!

Aargh! That ended today? Sh*t. Thats right you dumbass moroons that fkg guitar was woth $2K for the boomerangs alone!!! F$%# hell I have to pay a luthier 1K to put boomers in my custom job. For some reason the boomerang abolone arent breeding lately and it has made the boomerang inlay market skyrocket. Its better than gold I tell ya........
bubs_42 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I'll put my money were my mouth is. Its a bubble and it will pop... For those who got scared when the Sunbursts were going for crazy money. Same thing. They will reach that point one day for sure but not right now. It premature at best.
axe2grind Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 That's allot of money for a bolt-on neck IMO. On the other hand, Chaps are as good a shred guitar as you can find. I have owned a JEM 777VSK and have a USA Jackson Soloist and the Chap is right on par. I was going to bid on the one that sold for $500 something, but got busy today and missed the end of the auction. I would have bought that for sure at that price.
Rocktuna Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Can you say shill bidding.....there's no way somebody paid that you'll see it back up in a couple weeks

cmatthes Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 You'll see a mysterious (0) feedback bidder in there too.Coincidence?!Agreed. That'll show up again.
veatch Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 You'll see a mysterious (0) feedback bidder in there too.Coincidence?!Agreed. That'll show up again.I don't know - the two high bidders both came in late (after the 0 feedback bidder). The bidder that won has a 30 day history with a *lot* of wins. He must be bidding high and gearing up. In this case he may have just had someone else who also wanted it bad...

Jimbilly Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 That was an awful lot of nice pictures from someone who 'knows nothing' about that guitar. But still, what a cool guitar!
