Question

Hi Guys..

Any reason I should be concerned about receiving funds through paypal from thailand and then shipping to a US address. I would be waiting for funds to clear before shipping.

Is the US address verified on the account?

-Austin

The address is for a shipping service that will forward it on as I understand. So no..

I would not do it, personally.

In that case, you won't be covered by PayPal even if you ship with some tracking method and can prove that it got delivered. However, if it was me and I had a good feel for the guy, I'd do it as long as I transferred all of the money from PayPal to an account they couldn't get first. The worst that could happen is, the guy could try to scam you and try to get his money back, you'd tell him and PayPal to go eff themselves, and then you'd never be able to use PayPal again. That wouldn't put too much of a crimp in my style, but if it would for you, you might want to pass.

I had the same offer from someone a while back. I may have even asked the same question here at the forum. My potential buyer was in Poland IIRC and wanted an amp shipped to Chicago to his uncle. I checked his feedback and it was good, but I still couldn't do it. Better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't do it, personally. Just curious, what is it he wants that he can't get elsewhere? It's a big world out on the 'net.

I still wouldn't do it. Why should you take a risk and have no seller protection? If you get screwed out of $, it's all on you, not the buyer. Thailand has been reported in the news as a big source of credit card fraud in the past, too--it doesn't mean that they're using your card, either--you might still end up losing. I wouldn't want to find out the hard way.

I'd think if the person in the middle doesn't ship it to him... he gets his money back... (even if it's on purpose).

Uh oh... Does that mean the Cali is back on the "available" list...

I really need to get a second job or a rich uncle or sumthin...

a freight forwarder would raise a flag to me. I'm sure a scammer's

MO would be to use intermediary to insulate himself...

I think I may have misunderstood the translation for the shipping service side of the equation. I was actually emailing/messaging with 2 different people to begin with. At any rate, yeah no protection through paypal doesn't work for me in this particular scenario.

What do you guys think about receiving paypal fee's from outside of the US when the seller uses the "gift" option. You cannot do a chargeback on a gift can you?

I would also be sending to a friend of his in the US.

Any idea? :)

Now I'm really confused. I guess I should just shut up and ship to a verified account in the US.

:)

The scam section in this link has some info.

If you have so many questions.........seems to me that you feel weird about it. Trust your feelings and go with a simpler deal. That's my 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies.

Maybe I should ask him if he'll use western union or something.

Hmm :)

peace

Or maybe you should wait for another buyer.

They may be legit, who knows?

A few years ago I was looking for a backrest for 250 yamaha and the only one I could find was on Ebay for pretty cheap. Problem was it was coming from China from a business called Kakahealthcare. No kidding. Apparently they sell health and beauty products...and motorcycle parts lol. I took a chance and everything turned out great. And I got some really cool Chinese newspapers in the packing.

Bank wire transfers are easy, and have no risk to you. The buyer assumes all the risk, so perhaps that's an option. I sold a guitar to a fellow in Saudi Arabia and ran all the wire transfer process questions through my bank, ending up satisified with their answers. I felt uncomfortable providing the account # and SWIFT codes, but I was assured that all he could do was put money in my account...

Of course, for the buyer's side, he is handing over cash with no way to get it back in the case of problems, so all the risk lies there. I suppose the buyer could get very angry and come here and try to kill you, but otherwise you should be all right.
