crunchee Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 This particular guitar auction has been resurrected and killed more times than Dracula--check out the bidding history this last time around. When is this guy gonna let go of it? Ever? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT Also, found this auction--seems that the seller was called out regards his use of the word 'mint', and got a bit peeved about retracting the claim on the auction text. I think that 'mint' is a word that is WAY overused and misused anymore--it means about as much as 'that's nice', 'you're so sweet' and 'I'll call you tomorrow'. The photos on this auction site should speak for themselves: http://cgi.ebay.com/1961-Fender-Vibrolux-T...=item3cae6b1613 To quote MCChris: 'eBay sucks'.
hamerhead Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Yeah - that Monaco has been up at least twice more since the last time I posted what that dickhead was doing. It's been 5 or 6 times now that he's pulled it with one day to go. I reported it to ebay this time, not that it matters. It did make me feel a little better.
crunchee Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 That guy apparently has no faith in last minute bids or snipers--which is how I'd normally expect an auction on a guitar like this to go. At this point, I'd bet that they have no faith in HIM.
whiskeyzulu Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Its baaaack . . . what a joke- says "You name the price" - but he'll pull the auction if he doesn't like it.
hamerhead Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 You missed one - he ended yet another one about 2 days ago. The guy's a real sack of shit.
cmatthes Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I'm bidding on it every time he lists it just to see how long it takes to cancel the auction. It's a shame that he keeps cancelling, because I bid $1meeeelieeeon dollars last time...
fruhike Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 There were like 60 bids last time. Most from 1 or 2 people inching their way up to the high bidder.
cynic Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 There were like 60 bids last time. Most from 1 or 2 people inching their way up to the high bidder.I noticed that's the case on many of that sellers auctions. I checked at one point a week or so ago and of 12 guitars listed there was one bidder with more than 100 bids each on 8 of them.I guess the hope is for them to seem highly coveted?
specialk Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Someone needs to ask him if he ever plans to actually SELL the damn guitar. Too bad for me it's such a nice looker.
cynic Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Someone needs to ask him if he ever plans to actually SELL the damn guitar. Too bad for me it's such a nice looker.I've asked him each time it's ended the last half dozen times or so...He's not the talkative type though.
crunchee Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 There were like 60 bids last time. Most from 1 or 2 people inching their way up to the high bidder. I noticed that's the case on many of that sellers auctions. I checked at one point a week or so ago and of 12 guitars listed there was one bidder with more than 100 bids each on 8 of them. I guess the hope is for them to seem highly coveted? Either that, or to discourage others from bidding; in other words, to give the impression that if anybody else bids, it's gonna cost them. I've seen that bluff before--for instance, 4 bids in $10 increments for a high-value item won't stop determined bidders. If anything, if the multiple bidder IS trying to intimidate other bidders, it'll cost the multiple bidder more if they do bid high. Snipers don't go for that juvenile BS--they believe in 'one shot, one kill'. However, in this case, maybe multiple bids is just a way to antagonize the seller since he keeps ending the damn auction early! But that's just a guess.
Teh Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 It's some kind of automated bidding BS. I put in a single bid $10 higher than current high bidder, and the bidding goes up in $1 increments to match my bid -- In this case, 10 bids. There's something funky going on here...
livewire Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 It's a shame that he keeps cancelling, because I bid $1meeeelieeeon dollars last time...
sledhead44 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Very Coincidental, but check out this auction from "tonefactory" in OH http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-Hamer-Studio-Bookm...=item3f01e23912 125 bids on this already and the last 20+ bids are all the same amount WTH??? Maybe "tonefactory" and "tonegallery" are working together??? Conspiracy Theory anyone?
tbonesullivan Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 wtf??? 2 dollar increments? these auctions need reporting... stat.as for the other, if they want a certain price why not just set a reserve??? it's gotta be cheaper than listing it over and over.
backinit Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Shill bidding. These days Ebay doesn't give a crap about shill bidding, counterfeit goods and probably dozens of other violations in their policies.
tbonesullivan Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 bleh. stupid shill bidders. I've had much MUCh more luck getting good deals and just good guitars from forums like this one and from craigslist. of my current stable of 10 guitars, only one came from ebay, though I will say it was worth every penny.
sledhead44 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Shill bidding. These days Ebay doesn't give a crap about shill bidding, counterfeit goods and probably dozens of other violations in their policies.Yeah, they seem to not give a crap anymore about what really matters. I had a "violation" and they cancelled my ad on an Agile because I said it was "Les Paul style." I was not trying to fool anyone - it is a Les Paul style! And I clearly stated in the title the make and model. Yet, there are tons of guitars that have the same description that don't get pulled, or they show up in certain searches because they have "Gibson strings." Ok thanks for letting me rant.
Gasp100 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Bummer, that is in my watch list. I won't get my hopes up
crunchee Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 I think it finally had a complete auction! Maybe. http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270614018046
crunchee Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 The indecisive seller from Tone Gallery strikes again--this time with a '85 Cruisebass. You'd think he'd freakin' LEARN how to sell on feeBay by now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270632920746 I sent a question to him recently about it, he gave me a generic, non-committal answer regards condition. The auction was up yesterday, gone today. I think it was originally supposed to end tomorrow. What a freakin' tease.
