Want to buy Hamer Eclipse 12 string

At a realistic price... I am getting tired of trying to make rics work for me.. Love the look and sound, but intonation and playability are always dodgey for me with Rics.. For whatever reason..

anyway, I am thinking I would like to try an Eclipse 12, if there are any out there .

I have cash in hand, no problem, Just sold my Ric 660-12...

May consider other cool 12 string electrics as well. Let me know what you are selling, I may be interested if I can't find an Eclipse 12...

Please email me at [email protected]

I was gonna point out the one at Lark Street Music in NJ, but then read the first sentence.

Anyone think $1,450 for one of these is crack-smoking territory?

Good luck BB. Someone has just pulled theirs from under the bed and is pondering releasing it back into the stream for you, just be patient.

The Eclipse XIIs are great guitars for not a lot of money, typically - anything in the $1k range is a good price in my opinion, and I've seen them go for less recently.

Also, don't rule out a Newport 12 - I LOVE mine! Because it's a semi-hollow and all maple with PhatCats, it can definitely get that RIC chime and snarl. With a little compression, you'll be eight miles high in no time.

I agree that anything below $1K is a good value on an Eclipse 12, though the were selling for less a while back. I don't recall any recent sales. There was a time when you could snag a Newport 12 for $1,200, which was stupid low. Again, I haven't seen any change hands recently.

The one and only negative on the Eclipse is the pickups - IMO, these are some of the nastiest sounding units Seymour Duncan has ever made. Interesting in a garage band way on a six string, but totally wrong on a 12. Ceramic minibuckers do not chime!

Yeah I knew about the one at Lark Street, but Buzzy down there has been smoking something with a sweet aroma.. I saw an Eclipse-12 go for $700 last year... Not in desperate need of an electric 12, as a matter of fact I just sold my Ric 660-12 today,,, Dead mint as new, pretty much unplayed. I love rics, but they are a pain in the ass for some reason.

When the guy was on the way to pick it up, it sounded and played better than ever, and I was hoping he wouldn't show. He did , and he handed me 18 $100 bills, and ran out the door with a big smile,,, That guitar was gorgeous...

anyway, i'll keep looking... something will turn up... bob

Something really worth looking at is an early Daisy Rock (no, really) Retro-H 12-String.

Art Thompson reviewed in the March 05 GP:

I have a Pearl White one, like this:

They are dirt cheap, and sound great!

If you'd like to hear mine on something specifically written to sound like the '60s British groups, here it is, played through a Vox Tonelab SE. The other guitar is an Ovation Custom Legend 12 acoustic.

I've been thinking about selling this one.

Gorgeous.. However I dumped all my "high end" 12 string guitars, as I am not playing them much these days.. I would probably want something much cheaper than that beautiful Hamer you posted.

A very clean Vintage orange Eclipse 12 just showed up in my store, being sold by Stevie Clay(who needs no introduction to the Hamerati).

$1099 with case, pics when I can get to it.

I made the tort mounting rings and truss rod cover for it years ago, the originals are in the case.

We had one of those when we carried Daisy Rock. Was pretty nice!

I think mine came from you, when you quit carrying the line. Yeah, I decided to sell my Phantom 12 after I got it, because it jangled just as well.

Bulletbob,

there are strat 12s, too. As long as you wire it to be able to get the neck and bridge together, one of those would sound in the range, too.

I have an Eclipse 12 string I was going to put on eBay. Its the standard red color. It has the tiniest "worm "on the front near the bridge but it took me near three years to find it. Other than that it is mint, sustains for days and has low easy action. Just the thought of tuning a 12 string makes my head hurt, and I don't have a roadie anymore. I think it is worth a grand of anybody's money, but times are tough. Please contact me here if interested.

Bruce919 (Matt-he's a great guy to deal with) had a Squier Venus XII (Fender CIJ) up for sale not long ago for cheap, I've had a couple of those myself, they're great 12 string guitars! They're pretty close configuration-wise to the '60's Fender XII, same type bridge and has Seymour Duncan split-coil pickups (I think these pickups were only used on this model, and weren't available separately), plus they're only about as long as a standard six-string solidbody electric, which makes handling and playing very easy! Edited to add: Also, if I remember correctly, the split-coil pickup design is hum-cancelling (humbucking?), like a P-bass pickup is. I know they didn't hum like typical single coils!

I love the sound of 12 string electrics when they sound right, but I have a love/hate relationship with them, I finally gave up keeping one. Good luck on your quest!

The one and only negative on the Eclipse is the pickups - IMO, these are some of the nastiest sounding units Seymour Duncan has ever made. Interesting in a garage band way on a six string, but totally wrong on a 12. Ceramic minibuckers do not chime!

What's a good drop-in replacement for those SDs? Do they come in an Alnico version?

Lollar minibucker - might require slight modifications.

AdmiralB had put Dimarzio minis in mine and they are pretty darn good.

GFS has regular minis for cheap that work pretty well, too, but I've never tried them in the 12ver. And GFS now has Minitrons - basically baby Filtertrons - that look cool as hell. I put a full-size set of Liverpools in an Echotone and it totally transformed that guitar. I think a set of the mini Liverpools would be a great choice for an Eclipse 12.

Duncan offers a selection of Alnico-mag Firebird drop-in replacements:

From SD's standard line, they offer the SM-1 with Alnico 5 magnet: SM-1.jpg

The Antiquities line offers an Antiquities II version: 11014-09_10.jpg

And from the Custom Shop are these two interesting alternatives:

Adjustable 12-pole mini-bucker available with alnico 2, alnico 5, or ceramic magnet: 12_pole_mini.jpg

Staggered 3+3, also available with alnico 2, alnico 5, or ceramic magnet: 3_3_minihb.jpg
