elduave Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Let me tell you about Dennis. Dennis is a customer of ours, an older gentleman who is mostly blind, gets around with a walker or wheelchair strictly via Metro Access (handicapped transport) and has pretty severe medical issues (diabetes, weight, etc.) but somehow manages to make it to a weekly guitar lesson, attends every Jam Night we have, and lives for the occasional Open Mic night. His guitar was broken, most likely hitting a bus doorway upon entry/exit or being handled roughly by a driver. Our guy Roger fixed it once but it broke again, his opinion that there is so little wood at the point of breakage that it will never be strong enough, and you can't exactly fill that spot with bondo due to the truss rod channel. If you or someone you know is into parts projects or just wants to take a flyer on what was a pretty decent LP copy, please consider throwing a bid or passing it on. Thanks for reading.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...=STRK:MESELX:IT
elduave Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 So does he have a guitar to play now?I've offered him an "open door" loaner but he still wants to get something of his own.
cynic Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 If Dennis is living on a fixed income I'd personally be more inclined to offer a small donation to put towards another guitar than to bid high enough to win an Epi with a cracked neck.

Thanks cynic. He's on fixed for sure. Pretty much can't work. If anyone wants to contact me privately that's cool but it's not my intent. Here's our guy now:

Dave -- Find him a replacement axe and let us know Maybe something with a bolt-on maple neck...darn near indestructible Ray

Let's put something together and whip up some good karma for the club. Count me in of course. Z
a.bandini Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I'll contribute too. This is what guitars are all about. Man needs a guitar.
elduave Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 Wow! I should have know you guys would step up like this. Not sure what he wants, and he may be tied to the knobs, switches and pegs of an LP style, but I'll touch base with him!

Siaip Ciuvas Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 ...and a plastic hardcase? If not too heavy to handle...
elduave Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 ...and a plastic hardcase? If not too heavy to handle...He really needs something with shoulder straps. Is anyone here moving an Epi LP?Let me know what I can do to help. You keep doing what you're doing. Gonna swing by Bethesda mid-afternoon.
Siaip Ciuvas Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I remember I had some kind of noname plastic strat style hardcase with shoulder straps. Kinsman maybe? But I you have something better in US of A. Or maybe some premium semi-hard thingy?
geoff_hartwell Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 It's on like Donkey Kong. I have an import Hamer SATQ in honey burst that has a slight jack issue. I never got it fixed; I only paid $209 for it and I leave it at my teaching space. If we can cover two bills amongst ourselves, I'll pay for shipping to you at Rocketeria, you tinker/clean bill of health and he'll have an import Hamer. Cool? Geoff
elduave Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 Again, wow. Certainly enough folks wanting to help!If it's easy for you, dave at rocketeria dot biz is our Paypal. Please send as gift to save on fees. If not, I guess a check via snail mail? I'll compile donations along with whatever the broken Epi gets and let Dennis know the great news, as well as pass along the info on Geoff's SATQ. Once he makes a decision what he'd like I'll post it here and we'll proceed accordingly. Thanks so much y'all! Dennis is actually my first "formal" student as well! He switched to me from one of our other (great) teachers.
backinit Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I have an Epi standard in cherry sunburst that I'll let go for $120 plus shipping....needs pickups. It sits on my stand in my computer/music room. It has a veneer chip where your forearm rests. Pull the pickups out of the old one. Just thought I would toss that out there..

The listing has lots of views/watchers and has been bid on, so I'm going to let it run. So far we'll have whatever that gets, + a couple of folks have chipped in as well. Thanks again!
