Fair question...........the whole world can't be screwed up! I just want to know if there are any hot groups that can play like the 70 - 80 guys with lead guitars and such, with original music.

Thanks,

Bill

the days of melodic rock are gone... for now. too few talented musicians who let the music to speak for itself. put the blame on mtv. listen to jazz instead :-)

As my boy Yoda once said "No....there is another."

Nuno Bettencourt's new band DramaGods (formerly Population 1) will be releasing thier debut album soon.

Nuno's influences and talent should be a breathe of fresh air when the new stuff is released to the world.

I can't freaking wait.

Supagroup swings hard like a certain Aussie band. No Steely Dan chops here.... just two guitars, bass and drums.

The site has a jukebox....give 'em a looksee.

edit> They briefly reference "Road House" on the front page of the Tour Diary. That's a plus in my book.

I saw the Black Crows over the weekend. I would say they fall into that category. Nice live show was well.

Buckcherry had the ability to fit into that category nicely, but I think that they imploded, didn't they?

serial, I heard recently that Buckcherry was trying to put it back together. May want to Google it.

Cheap Chick opened for Silvertide in Rockford. I was standing directly behind the drum kit, in conversation with my buddy Dave, when the ripped into their opening song. They made a believer out of me when their scrawny little singer immediately launched himself from the stage into the crowd, which was about a fifteen foot drop! I took these photos from the side of the stage. To me, they were kind of a cross between Skynrd & the Black Crowes, and they definitely kicked some serious ass. We only caught about 1/2 hour of their set, but definitely high energy with lots of serious guitar solos.

Definitely Jet and The Darkness. Both are awesomely crunchy, even in milk!

Velvet Revolver gets some high marks from me too.

I'm surprised no one has yet to mention on of my favorties, Lenny Kravitz. He has consistanly been kicking out the retro tunes with a hint of glam thrown in (ok, maybe more 60s/70s, but its good). Check out some of the tones and riffs both he and Craig Ross can produce (and c'mon, you gotta give both of them some credibility points for the afros alone). Slash shows up on at least one of Lenny's better know tunes, so that's gotta speak for something. (Yes, I'm a big Slash fan).

I like Jet and the guitars from the Darkness are good, but the vocals suck.

Silvertide is pretty good and so is Velvet Revolver but one of the origional bad boys of 70's rock is still kicking and kicking hard. Alice Coopers new Dirty Diamonds is out and has that feel to it, but he can be a strange ranger on some songs but they are hysterically twisted.

If you're possibly looking for something in more of a Purple/Rainbow/guitar hero vein, I'd check out Stuart Smith (a brit guitarist living or was in LA)..he's been under the mainstream radar for a while...definite Blackmore vibe there...

The first album "Heaven and Earth" has Joe Lynn Turner on vocals and the title track just never seems to leave some back corner of my brain for some reason.. I've also got a track of him and Sambora doing "When A Blind Man Cires" that I honestly believes not only does the original justices but absolutely blows it away.. the both take a lead on that one with Sambora doing the vocals and it just slays.. I've listened to that cut everyday for over a year now. BTW, he's married to Heather Locklears sister..lol..

The Darkness - everything is great except the lead singer.......grates on me...

Still checking out the others....
