murkat Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 again, baby steps. round 3... and plugs flushed... and... I can not leave that top alone while the headstock is curing.... TLE / JLV getting its coats on
murkat Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Kahler'd sunburst is top coated. time to dry and cure Put one in... Take one out... Some have ask to build. I do build. This one, not spoken for, A natural maple Bengal striped soloist body with Honduras mahogany back. This is going to be cool. the maple is very deep and moves like torrent waves....
tobereeno Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 the JLV isn't so ugly anymore eh? top stripe is Jay's brainchild, and man does it work! Very nice to see the headstock fully restored to brand spanking new...the idea behind the entire project - make it new, and make it classy. Still unique in being the only setneck Hamer I can think of with a factory Fender bridge. Those fiddly old stamped vintage saddles are key to bringing out the mojo in this guitar. Can't wait to see how the boomerangs pop with the black finish!!
serial Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Dayum. The purple TLE is SICK looking in black-nice!
cmatthes Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Ditto - I'm digging the JLV TLE just SO much better now...Nice, you guys!J. - you should have a little box in the mail tomorrow with some goofy-looking (yet familiar) tape on it.
mail4kev Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I am extremely attracted to that Bengal body.If I ever make up my mind what I want in a custom build, Jay's the man I am gonna call.I do envy you guys that live near him and have access to his skills without having to deal with exorbitant shipping cost.Kev
burningyen Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Interesting trem rout shape. What's the story there?
kizanski Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 the JLV isn't so ugly anymore eh?Actually, I liked it the way it was - pick guard and all.
gtone Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Great work as always, Jay. Love these threads - keep 'em coming!
bubs_42 Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Those holes are like little ninja's blending in the Flamey Jungle.
burningyen Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Trans finish over plugged holes = balls of steel.
mail4kev Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Those holes are like little ninja's blending in the Flamey Jungle. Good one! I do agree that it blends pretty well. I thought they'd stick out like sore thumbs. Kudos to Jay! Most excellent as usual.
tobereeno Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Trans finish over plugged holes = balls of steel. yep. I wanted to do a vintage trans cherry, but with a couple plugged holes in the top, I lacked the requisite steel balls
