Amp head question

Citrus

Question

Posted

Looking for a head around 30 watts that does fender cleans, and an Early ZZ top or Blues breakers??

Asking too much of 1 amp?

Would you do Fender cleans, with a pedal??

Currently have a THD 2x12 that I am looking to mate with a head

Contact Randy Fey at Phaez Amps and talk with him,he can pretty much build you whatever you want, and his prices are very reasonable.

that's all I got.

Randy is one of the best kept secrets. I have a Daisycutter 18wt that's fantastic. He can help you get what you want out of both channels. You might want to try his Dumble HRM channel switching design. The best cleans with a fat tone without a ton of compression. Good luck.

I actually own this amp in the 45 watt version with 2 EL34s, although it is currently running 2 NOS 6CA7s. One channel is Fender Blackface, with practically unlimited clean headroom, and the HRM side is blissful, smooth OD, kick in the MOD and I'm in plexi territory. Killer amp, and yes, still a relatively well kept secret.

You might want to stop by and give my Z28 a trial run! Fender cleans, more brown than blackface, and very Marshally overdrive. Rated at 22 watts but I think it puts out more

Um, I think you've answered your own question, kindasorta...how about a Marshall JTM45 or a Bluesbreaker? Marshall says that it's rated at 30 watts RMS on the specs, though I've always thought it was 45:

It gets shimmery clean as well as old-school dirty, depending on where you set the controls.

Check out the Carr Slant 6V amps. It's about 10 watts more with a 40 watt output, but has the Fender clean/ medium gain Marshall tone you're looking for with full 3 band EQ on each channel. The output can be adjusted from 40 / 22/ 18 watts with the power selector switch and it runs on 6V6 power tubes.

+1 to Randy Fay of Phaez. Don't know of ANYONE else who could handwire an amp that would give you what you're looking for at less than a grand and put in the options you need. Best of all, it's gonna kick all kinds of @$$ tone-wise.

Here's my first generation DaisyCutter in my own "gtone" combo cab (my first build years ago, so don't laugh too hard)...

Wow, I didn't realize there were as many Phaez owners here as there are, although to be fair, it could be the three who have posted in this thread.

What Crunchee said.....a JTM45 is perfect for what you described...either a clone or a Marshall. I have. Bluesbreaker and it will give me sparkling cleans and then Marshall crunch and nuts. Or you could try a Fender brown 6G3 brown Deluxe clone...with the right speaker it will give up nice cleans and the OD/distortion is incredible. Very Marshall like....gets nasty fast.....a few peeps make clones....I like Lil Dawg..
