serial Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 that's gotta be a 1 offWhy's that?I'm on my iPhone, but it looks like any other red/black Zulu Scarab II (a fairly common Hamer) except for the added EMG.Maybe a one-off for how cheap it is!

Tells you how little I know :-)
Andrew Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Even the black/chrome mix tuners are a common feature around 83/84.
coolfeel Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Guys, I Do Think It Is Quite Rare, I Have Never Seen Another Made In US/Western Germany...lol
ptm1diver Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Now if it were made on East Germany it would be really special
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Dids someone here buy it? At $200 it's nearly free...
ptm1diver Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I don't know, but I sent and email to find out. It would be funny if nobody has snatched it up.
Never2Late Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 That terrible paint-job aside (and this is the second one I've seen with the Day-Glow Zulu finish), $200 bucks for a USA-made guitar is pretty tempting....
cmatthes Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 That's just the Red/Black Zulu finish. If it was a DayGlo Zulu, it would be worth more money for sure.
svl Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I think the $200 tag was just bait. Read the description- "make me an offer".Fishin', baby.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 He took my offer of $75 + shipping. No f**king way??? I'd have had that for $200 without thinking about it...
billtedd Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Hey....I didn't sell this guitar to anyone for 75$ bucks. I took down the listing after someone told emailed me saying it was worth 4 times as much. I don't know too much about these guitars, but can I have some advice about how much its worth, etc? Thanks hamer fans..
Ting Ho Dung Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Hey....I didn't sell this guitar to anyone for 75$ bucks. Thanks hamer fans..I believe cmathes was joking about the $75. If I recall your ad correctly you listed an EMG pickup in it which more than likely isn't stock. So that would take a few dollars off for me. It would also have to be pretty well mint to be worth four times as much. So I would say $350 to the right person. Any one else care to join in?Edit to add: If there are no breaks then, yes, it is worth more than $200 especially if you still have the original case.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 $350 is always the going rate for a less than perfect US Hamer. I paid even less for my 91 Centaura here ($300)...
billtedd Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Thanks for the info..it has a slight crack in the headstock leading up to the first tuner...its not really deep into the wood, seems like just the paint layer...how much would that effect the value?
Never2Late Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I could see paying $350 for it.....the paint finish, rough treatment, cracks/dents/dings, and non-original hardware/pickups hurt its value. Anyone who claims its an $800 guitar is misinformed.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 It's a nice guitar and I love this shape. I wouldn't personally go over $350. People who do not know Hamer aren't worth listening to! Because Hamer no longer exists doesn't mean that the prices should be hiked. We're a sensible bunch here & I'm sure many would agree that $400 tops is about right for this. With the faults/mods, I'd say $350 is about right. No-one here will rip you off mate
cmatthes Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I haven't seen pics of the crack described at the Floyd bolts, but that's a pretty common thing for that design - most of the time it's a finish crack, nothing at all wrong with the structural integrity of the guitar. That was just a flawed design that they improved upon in the later versions.Feel free to post it here in the "For Sale" section, but please understand that we don't allow "virtual auctions" on this site, so if you want to post it here, pick a price and stick to it. Nine out of ten times, the "what's my guitar worth?" posts end up as thinly veiled invitations to bid, so please don't do that either. If somebody has made you a fair offer off the board, and you're comfortable with it, by all means - take it!I think you could get a wider audience and pull more $$ on eBay for that guitar. It's certainly worth more than the proverbial $350, but in the real world, I don't think it'd hit the $800 mark that you were told. Then again, posting it for sale where you'd have access to a wide audience might pull somebody out of the woodwork who is looking for that guitar and who would happily pay more for it.It might be a good idea to pull past auctions to see what other Scarabs actually sold for - NOT WHAT THE SELLERS ASKED, but what a final sale price was. Set a low, but comfortable reserve (hey, why not $350?), and let things run their course. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.
