Dave Scepter Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 Today in 1971, the Montreux Casino in Switzerland burned down when somebody let off a flare gun during a Frank Zappa show. Deep Purple had been scheduled to start recording their Machine Head album at the venue the following day, but not all was lost: The fire famously inspired the band's classic Smoke On The Water. 6 Quote

Dave Scepter Posted December 12, 2025 Posted December 12, 2025 Neal Schon on the ‘Awful’ Jam He Played With Santana After Dropping Acid “We listened back to the tape, and it was awful.” Neal Schon reflected on his relationship with Santana, recalling how they both sounded “awful” at an acid-fueled jam session. Speaking to Rick Beato in a recent interview, the Journey icon recalled his frequent late-night hangs with fellow guitarist Carlos Santana, and how the decision to drop acid right before an impromptu jam session quickly turned into a disaster. “Carlos and I were hanging [out often]; we did many long rides together. We hung out all the time. He used to come to the first house that I owned in Mill Valley. Yeah, I lived way up on Mount Tamalpais, and he lived, like, a few blocks away. We were always together. We hung out all the time, and he was always dropping a lot of acid.” “We went downstairs and tried to jam, and we listened back to the tape, and it was awful. He ended up playing drums, and I ended up playing guitar. The guitar was all out of tune. And we’re, like, going nuts down downstairs.” Catch the stream at k-zap.org, on the k-zap apps or at 93.3 FM in the metro Sacramento area. #kzaporg 1 2 Quote

specialk Posted December 18, 2025 Posted December 18, 2025 Either way, it looks like a lot of work/talent for a guitar that few would actually play… 1 Quote
diablo175 Posted December 18, 2025 Posted December 18, 2025 Just giving voice to the thought we all have had: Guitar playing IS health care. Rarely feel better than I do after a better than average session jamming on guitar. The trick is trying to hit that sweet spot of better than average on a consistent basis. 4 Quote
