Hamerjunki Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Thinking about parting with one of my '79 Sunbursts. What's fair market value for this guitar? I can't find a completed auction on ebay with a comparable guitar.
Bobby Marshall Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 How much is a 69 Chevy worth? It depends. So many things factor into value, original paint, original parts, repairs, refinishes, rare original options/paint. Need way more information than what you have said. Based on what you have said, I say your guitar may be worth at least $350.
Hamerjunki Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 Yeah, sorry, that wasn't much info. All original w/ OHSC except for a pro fret job. Typical of '79, a brown, dare I say tobacco, sunburst. Nice top. Crowned and bound fretboard, grovers, no breaks, orig out of phase middle postion wiring (which I can't stand). Neck profile is slim both ways, width and depth. The binding on the treble side of the body waist separated at one point but we massaged that back together. Otherwise a solid ax. About 8lbs. Not as light at my black '79 or my '77 but it's a great sounding and playing guitar. I bought it from a friend in '98. It's been played and loved but I have 5 Hamers including a 4 digit STD and I'm thinking of parting with this one. It seems like I never see them come up on ebay and for some odd reason, I've noticed that Vintage Guitar magazine almost never has a price listing for them. Some kind of odd bias. Anyway, what's fair market value for this guitar?By the way, your avatar looks just like my '77 Sunburst.
RichRS6 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Always a hard question to answer as it depends on so many variables. A good condition (original P/U's and hardware) no breaks B&C 79 with a nice top inc case has got to be worth around $1300 - $1500 apart from here where it's worth $350.
cynic Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Unless it's black, where a certain someone here would practically write you a blank check.
Hamerjunki Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 I have a '79 in Black as well but it's a bit battle scarred and is dots. It does have cool cream knobs which I haven't really seen before. The black one isn't for sale and technically I'm not sure the brown burst is yet either. If I can't get a pile of money for it, I'll just play it. I'll try to add pix of both...
atomicwash Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Post some photos and wait for the $350 offers to pour in!Here's a source:http://bluebookofguitarvalues.com/Electric_Guitar_Values/Guitar_Manufacturer.aspx?id=HAMEROr at Reverb:http://reverb.com/price-guide/guide/1973-hamer-sunburst-1979-cherry

bubs_42 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I paid Bubs more than I should have for this one, but Murkat told me it was really good. It is, however, a 1978... You say that but i'm pretty sure your investment is safe and will make you money before too long. THAT guitar is one that I regret selling, Labor of love to bring it back to true form. Also the best Bridge Dimarzio i've ever heard. We should CLONE that pickup.
louhamer Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 According to The new 2015 Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide, a 1977 - 1979 Hamer Sunburst in excellent condition is worth between $ 2100 - $ 2600.
Hamerjunki Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Ok, I'm a moron. How do you post pix to this forum?
cmatthes Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 According to The new 2015 Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide, a 1977 - 1979 Hamer Sunburst in excellent condition is worth between $ 2100 - $ 2600.The Vintage Magazine Price Guide has NEVER been worth the price of the paper it's printed on regarding Hamer stuff. They have absolutely no idea the real values...still.

'In Philadelphia it's worth fifty bucks.'
ARM OF HAMER Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Here is my 1979 Hamer Sunburst...........original Black finish and it is bound and crowned. It has a 1979 Dimarzio X2N pickup replacing the original and as you can see it does have a non factory installed Kahler trem. It did not come with a case. The guitar is a monster, it sounds looks and plays superb IMHO. I paid $1,200.00 for it and I have had no regrets as its one of the best guitars if not THE best guitar I have ever owned or played. Its NFS................No cream or sugar just make mine BLACK. Cynic is right about the blank check thing pretty much .............I have a standing offer of my 1978 Gibson L-5S as a even trade for a 1978 Black B&C'd Hamer Sunburst that is original. That should be telling how high I regard the Hamer Sunburst I own.
Bobby Marshall Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 They group 77-82? What schmucks. A 77 and an 82 in fair or better condition would be different in price by AT LEAST a full thousand us dollars. 77 was the first year of production. 4 non serial and 97 serial numbered sunbursts that year. And how many 77 sunbursts have survived? Just a joke.
Hamerjunki Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 I've got # 91 from '77. Sweet guitar. No OOP.
ARM OF HAMER Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Here....................Recent...............this is a 1980 Sunburst Dot Neck..............what someone was willing to pay.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1980-Hamer-Sunburst-guitar-/131389515740?pt=Guitar&hash=item1e976ce7dc&nma=true&si=YdnbVrKQlA10X3xECB5Gn0wBbbM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
