it's me HHB Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I got roped into a supposed benefit gig with a well know town idiot. She is already drunk and our last set was 20 minutes, 10 beings instrumental ( its just me and her ). This is where this life sucks. On the bright side Im stealing this gig with ease
it's me HHB Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 Shes putting my name on the sign right now. After 2 sets lol. I wish she wouldnt
crunchee Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I got roped into a supposed benefit gig with a well know town idiot. On the bright side Im stealing this gig with ease And the night is still young! Good luck!
it's me HHB Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 On our 5th break for a 3hr gig. Cleared the room. The benefit for the shooting victims turns out to be the 12 bucks in the tip jar. Really embarrassing and totally exploitive
Steve Haynie Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Maybe the club will recognize who is drunk and who is there to really play a show.
veatch Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Hopefully Mr. Haynie has this right... Good luck - i feel for ya'.
crunchee Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 +1, at least you gave it a try, hopefully somebody will remember that in a positive way!
Tres Aardvarks Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Hey Bill, sucks that you're paired with her and it's a train wreck. However, play and act like a pro and it will be painfully obvious to everyone who is fucking up the gig. Keep your reputation intact and it'll carry you through.
it's me HHB Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Well......the owner had not promised her anything. The magic tip jar was going to cover everything lol. Owner took me aside, gave me half what she promised and asked me to understand. I did and chalked it up to always find the ability to say no. I usually do and this slip really bit my ass
it's me HHB Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 This gig had a radio interview about it!!! I got cornered by nitwit at the local station and frankly I thought it was for an Americana band I sometimes play lap steel with.....
mrhappy Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Hey Bill... Well at least you got some 'stories' out of it! Lap steel eh.... you been playing that a lot these days???
it's me HHB Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Just did a month of C6 lap on a Patsy Cline show. Got a pedal steel last month, will debut that on some James Taylor tunes in August
geoff_hartwell Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Just did a month of C6 lap on a Patsy Cline show. Got a pedal steel last month, will debut that on some James Taylor tunes in August Love the gig updates! I feel your pain bro, the struggle is real, haha. On steel are you going 6 or 8 string? And what order of the strings? For ex on 8 string ACEGACEG, or otherwise? Keep on truckin'
carfish7 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Way to hang in there. Had my first gig in quite some time yesterday. An ocean of bikers all wearing their "colors". Glad they were completely uninterested in us as we launched into our "90's Alt" setlist. Steel guitar? Man, this STILL haunts me;
it's me HHB Posted July 12, 2015 Author Posted July 12, 2015 Thanks guys. I used a 40s Oahu 6 string CEGACE for Patsy. E9 on 10 string single neck three pedal
Brooks Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 i bet a looper pedal is starting to sound like a good idea
Biz Prof Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Perhaps this should be merged into the Band Killer thread? ;-)
mrhappy Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Just did a month of C6 lap on a Patsy Cline show. Got a pedal steel last month, will debut that on some James Taylor tunes in August Nice... now I'm inspired!!
it's me HHB Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 It's hard. Pedal is easier than lap. Nonpedal steel is so hard. The slants are brutal, takes so long to sound natural
Brooks Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 The slants are brutal, takes so long to sound naturaldoes that mean slanting the bar angle to get a minor 3rd out of the B & G strings?theres a rogue lap steel locally for $50, prolly never need it but i want to fool with it...
it's me HHB Posted July 16, 2015 Author Posted July 16, 2015 Yes Brooks but usually you skip a string or 2 on the slants but that's c6 tuning. Adjacent slants are the hardest
