Taylor Player Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Hey all, Long time lurker, new poster. Saw this go up over at Chris Guitars today and thought it was too sweet not to share. Not what I'm looking for at the moment, but it sure is some nice looking guitar porn. www.chrisguitars.com Daren
jujisque Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that finish is ugly.
atquinn Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that finish is ugly. I don't think it's ugly exactly, but the whole guitar is way too flashy for my tastes. To each his/her own I guess.-Austin
Michael_ Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 it looks like something Mr. T would wear around his neck. I'm sure it sounds good though.
luiss Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 A questions for you could trying and /or owning one of these Ultimates, Would they worth prize asked?Diferences with Artist Custom model?I 've seen a beautiful custom order quilt top here some time ago...Thanks.
ceeb Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 From the website:...dual humbuckers are hand wound using oxygen-free Monster Cable wire and signed by Seymour Duncan himself. .... fully bound body, neck and headstock and also is adorned by some 250 pieces of hand-inlayed Mother-of-Pearl. All Monster Cable internal wiring. You also get a more fancier case to lug that guitar around in.My guit teacher had a really crappy experience with Chris' about a month ago. After seeing how shabbily he was treated, I wouldn't buy anything from there.
auge Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 i purchased a gibson a few months ago at chris guitars and everything was perfect including shipping to APO, paypal and so on...only the setup was not my taste but i changed it by myself. he answered quick and exact. was ok. IMO.auge
Moose Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 From the website:...dual humbuckers are hand wound using oxygen-free Monster Cable wire and signed by Seymour Duncan himself. .... fully bound body, neck and headstock and also is adorned by some Maybe it's just me, but having Monster cable in there is a detriment in my book, not a benefit. Were it a reputable company like Mogami or something, that'd be a different story.

You may not like Monster, and some could successfully argue that there is much better wire, but for the amount used it may not be that significant. There is something very different about the sound of the pups in the ultimate, more bell like, single coil kind of quality. It may not be your thing but they are great sounding guitars! ArnieZ
cmatthes Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 That's a great deal. Sad to say I'm not in any position to snag one of those, but every one I've played has been amazing. The work that goes into those is incredible, to say the least...
craigjw1914 Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Hello,I am brand new to the forum. I have an Artist Ultimate Custom that I am reluctantly selling due to an unfortunate injury that has stopped my playing. It was ordered in 2003 by Steve Ambrose as one of 2 custom ordered. Built without the F hole. A stunner in perfect condition. Same "ugly" brown sugar finishon insane quilt. LOL. Featured during the 2004 Hamer celebration and played by many Hamer players. I sold off a Gibby 59burst RI for it and never regretted it.These are some of the finest sounding guitars on the planet. I know. My guitar family includes one of the 6 Gibson "Tonequest" Goldtops, a GVCG Ultimate 59 Strat and a Baker Robben Ford Custom. The very last one Gene built before closing down. There are others too. If anyone might be interested in any except the LP or the Ulti59, contact me. Great photos will be sent right away. Thanks.drchristian@drcraigchristian.com
Jason01 Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I love that color, I think it looks great on those guitars. I guess I'm in the minority.
polara Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I think I've played the one in question... the one Steve A ordered. They are mighty bling for my tastes but in person the workmanship and detail is amazing. You just can't stop looking at the thing...and I could never afford one.
Mike_C Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I love the color. The only thing I wish they'd do differently is put cream surrounds on the pickups instead of black.
peedenmark7 Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 not sure what hamer gets on a sunburst style body but on a std the ultimate binding is a $900 upcharge...if an archtop is your thing, its cheap.
cmatthes Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I think the NEW price for Ultimate binding is $1,900, not $900. Could be wrong, but that's what I thought I saw. It used to be $1,000 a few years ago, body shape/style isn't the factor.Somebody with a quote in hand could probably chip in here...
