ARM OF HAMER Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I hear what your saying and this is a fine guitar I must say. But being a man of my word if you look elsewhere on my posted threads here on the HFC you will see......................these 2 guitars I own now are my last 2 guitars..............no other trades,purchases,............. nothing............ will take place.I WOULD think someone would want this one though..................... B&C'd "BOWTIE" Sunbursts very rarely come up for sale. BUY this one then you can play and have a SWEET.......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vNERwwzn7A
mc2 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Was the top refinned from any work to it, like removing a trem, or just to refin a bad finish?Where abouts is SN# range ?
pirateflynn Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 This one came to me from the brother of the original owner (who had passed away), and from what I remember, it is an extremely nice guitar. The top refin must have been very early as it matched the rest of the guitar so well that the work got passed me. Barry caught it in a backlight test and brought it to my attention. If I recall correctly, we never could figure out the reason for the top refin but no damage or repairs could be found. I did write the brother at the time but he didn't know anything about the work. It might have been that the guy wore a bracelet that marked it up or something along those lines. Anyway, it spent about 30 years under a bed before it came to the HFC.
bmenary Posted September 15, 2015 Author Posted September 15, 2015 I would have to weigh it- It's not light but the tone is worth it. I would say 9 LBS but again have to weigh it. I don't know why it was refinished. The SN range is in the 800's
Grandturk Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 What does "one of the fret slots is too low" mean? Is the fret sunken into the fretboard? What's the story on the pickups? Rings? Pots?
bmenary Posted September 15, 2015 Author Posted September 15, 2015 What I meant is the nut was worked on and one of the string slots was filed a bit too low. Just needs a tweak. I am obsessive pickup switcher and the pups in the photos are not the originals. I have the originals that sound very good and I will install before shipping. The pots are original.
velorush Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 What I meant is the nut was worked on and one of the string slots was filed a bit too low. Just needs a tweak. FWIW:
serial Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Top could've been a Hamer refin too. Several Sunbursts are even in the logs as being resprayed.
bmenary Posted September 15, 2015 Author Posted September 15, 2015 Brent- You should buy it man- It's nice...
bmenary Posted September 15, 2015 Author Posted September 15, 2015 Velorush- Yep, like that- I am just not good at it-
Brentrocks Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I have done the baking soda and super glue mod many times. Works great.
velorush Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Velorush- Yep, like that- I am just not good at it- Wasn't suggesting you do that. I posted the video to show prospective buyers with any hesitance over the too-deep groove that repair is a pretty simple matter. In no way should a little thing like that cause anyone pause on purchasing this otherwise very desirable instrument.
ARM OF HAMER Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 This WOULD look good in your stable Brent ........................I know you have mentioned many times your regret over selling that Black 78 Sunburst. There is nothing that would stop me from buying this guitar if I had none its Martin Barre "Approved"
Disturber Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 What I meant is the nut was worked on and one of the string slots was filed a bit too low. Just needs a tweak. FWIW: So that is how you do it! I snorted the baking soda and sniffed the glue. No wonder it didn't work! Seriously, great advice. I will remember that one.
BadgerDave Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 The baking soda/super glue fix works even better if you substitute bone dust for the baking soda. Just use sandpaper and a spare nut to make the dust.
Brentrocks Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Barry is a great guy to deal with....we have done deals in the past
ARM OF HAMER Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 A fantastic 1979 [Arguably the best all around year for one of these fine specimens] Hamer SUNBURST In a rare and very hard to find BLACK "Sunburst". These come up for sale so very little as I have seen in my searches in past and present. It has the original PUPS,case and................ Its "Bound and Crowned".............NICE! Is there no one up for a grab for this fine instrument? I for one love this guitar!
