I completely overlooked it, but I see it's quite popular. OK, I'll try to fix it later, when I'll get to a computer, and then I'll notify you guys here. To be continued...

The Blitz hockey sticks are even better! Now reverse them and ya got something going there! You mean something like this Jim? Peter
ZR Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I like the one on my chap Custom but I voted for later hockey stick as I thought that was the closest. But, isn't the Chap headstock with the edge revealing some of the underlying wood or the finish from the back of the headstock actually different and worthy of its own category? Isn't it different in the way the edges are rounded like that?

The Chap and also the Scepter are exactly like you say, even if they're pretty much like the modern Standard's. So yes, they might have deserved a separate category for themselves. In my defense I can still argue I wanted to keep it simple, but I do see your point.

Just a great original design! For me, though, the Dan Armstrong is my favorite custom design. The SS is probably my favorite stock design.
Navigator Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I like this conversation, mostly because I've never quite understood why Hamer deemed it necessary to change the headstock profile of the Standard. My vote goes to the original Standard headstock, but not because it's thinner, but because it's longer. I find the latter-day Standard headstock oddly short for an Explorer style. Compared side by side with my '70s Ibanez Destroyer, my '05 Standard's headstock looks really short. (The Destroyer's is both long and fat--probably the first "banana" profile, as used on EVH's Kramer Baretta's and the like.) However, the more extreme downward angle of the '05 Hamer seems to compensate somewhat for it's reduced length.
