Tremolo'd Tele?

Question

Has anyone here installed a Strat type tremolo on a Tele? I have a Tele I am tempted to hack up. I recently installed a Bigsby with a Callaham bridge on a project; the B5 Bigsby feels huge to me.

Is there a Strat type tremolo that is amazing? MannMade? Wilkinson? Fender? G&L?

Suggestions/comments? Thanks, Dan

Mine was made from the beginning that way by Benford ( http://benfordguitars.com/ ), I bought it used at a very nice price, dunno if it qualifies as a Tele OR a Strat, but I like it.  PUs are Seymour Duncan P-Rails:

I think the trem is one of these, with a brass sustain block.  IMO, acoustically and plugged in, the guitar sounds a lot better than any guitar with a Fender-style trem that I've ever played before; but then again I usually play guitars that don't cost a lot:  ;)

No affiliation to any of the above websites BTW, just posting them for reference purposes.

Have you shopped around for a Warmoth or other similar Tele body that already has a rout for a Strat-style trem, either new or used?  I'd be reluctant to chew up a perfectly good Tele body.

Edited to add:  Benford's website says they're located in a northern suburb of Milwaukee.

I'm a big fan of the SuperVee stuff.  I've got them in my two favorite Strats.  Really cool.

I installed a Bigsby on my Thinline, it changed the sound of the guitar quite considerably, if I could have found a Strat type trem that worked with the Tele bridge pickup, and bridge plate, and didn't look to strange I would have gone with that, as I much prefer a fulcrum style tremolo.

My Kubicki Tele was built with this Strat style trem 33 years ago....and also has Strat body contours on the lower half of the body.

A real comfortable guitar to play.

Actually, the original Telecaster Deluxe had the Strat trem as an option (though I have never seen one or even spoken with anyone who has actually ever seen an original).

There is currently available the Classic Player Tele so configured:

Personally, I find this an incredibly attractive combination, especially with replacing the stock conventional-made-to-look-like-wide-range humbuckers with a set of Lollar Regals.

I did this one for a guy over at Premier Guitar a couple years ago and he wrote an article about it,

NOT my words, but I did do the work and I took the pics  :)

It still "felt" like a tele and sounded like a BEAST after he changed the pickups.

It was a great time, and I have played with the idea of doing the same job on my T-51 and put it back into service.

Thanks for reading!

there were some downright HILARIOUS comments on that one

I think some have been re-tracted 'cause I don't see 'em anymore, but it was pretty rough. I just noticed that you can't click on the pics(for detail) anymore

This one is basically a 70's Les Paul with a Floyd...... Love the look of the Bigsby.... this is a little different .....
