BadgerDave Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Looking for an electric 12 string. I had a great Eclipse 12 that I regret selling, so that's primarily what I'm interested in. A Newport 12 would be nice as well, but I expect those are selling for more than I want to spend. $1,000 is my upper limit for an Eclipse, Maybe $1,500 for a Newport. I'm also open to a Ric 660 12, and possibly others, though not a 620 or anything with a narrow nut.
currypowder Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 A worthy pursuit. I've had a ton of fun on my Newport-12. As is the norm around here, here's a teaser pic. Alas, it's not for sale.
cmatthes Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I've been playing electric 12s - all of 'em - for 30 years. The Newport 12 is the best I've played.
RobB Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 Gotta love the HFC. OP's looking for a 12str for sale. 3 replies from members stating how much they love their not-for-sale 12strs. Classic.
cmatthes Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 It's reinforcement. Don't want him making a mistake and buying a Rickenbacker!
Hamer95USA Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 I wasn't sure if I wanted to drop $1K plus on either a Hamer Eclipse or a Newport guitar, so I bought this '90s Yamaha Pacifica 303-12 12 string electric guitar from Guitar Center used website to mess around with earlier this year.

Had that same guitar in trans blue. I put in some moderate output rail pickups in it, just for the humbucking effect. Other than that I kept it stock. The only gripe I had was that the headstock shape made it hard to tune the G's. Had it until the right Eclipse 12 showed up and I still know where it is. John, if you find one in good shape, I'd pick it up without reservation.

I did play my friend's vintage Rickenbacker 12 string guitar, the Danelectro electric 12 string, and the Epiphone SG double neck guitar. I like the Yamaha Pacifica 303-12 guitar. It can get some jangly tones with its Strat pickup configuration, the neck is comfortable to play, and it stays in tune. I lent to my singer/guitarist in my '80s tribute band and had him play it through his amp with a compressor pedal. It sounded cool & jangly without the big vintage Rickenbacker price tag or the worry of theft at a gig. Since it's a guitar that doesn't get played onstage much since I bought it to experiment with its sound at home, I don't think I would drop good money on an Eclipse or Newport 12 string guitar. I also have a nice Takamine 12 string acoustic/electric guitar with a cutaway so I'm covered in the acoustic & electric 12 string guitars. Guitar George

We’re San Jose during the work week and Discovery Bay on the weekends. Thanks for the review....
Hamer95USA Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 @jginsj: Yes, I'm in the Bay Area! Last time that I was in Discovery Bay was about 2 years ago at Christmas time. I was playing a house warming party as a guitar sub for a friend's band for a Russian tech executive & his family. There were people doing a Christmas parade in the Delta with their boats that had lights all over it. There was also a hot blonde woman in a small boat that was wearing a fur coat with a bikini underneath, dancing to Pharrell Williams "Happy" on the boat's stereo system. That woman on the boat was quite a sight to see in person when I was standing out in the backyard of the Russian tech executive's home. I'm glad that you found my review to be useful. If you're looking to buy a 12 string electric guitar, you're welcome to try it out if you decide that you're in market for buying one.

I was driving the lead boat that year... 😀 Thanks for the offer of trying out that 12-string. Might just take you up on that!
Camstone Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 I have three electric 12 string guitars. The one of mine that is probably the best bang for the buck, under $1000 and fun/easy to play is a MIJ Fender Stratocaster XII. You should be able to find one for $700 to $800.

BadgerDave Posted December 9, 2019 Author Posted December 9, 2019 Sometimes you get lucky. I was fishing for an Eclipse and landed a Newport.

cmatthes Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 My Newport 12 is the best 12 I’ve owned, but my Cali 12 is right behind it. Of course, because I’m a fcuking idiot, I’m already working on something else in an electric 12 string...
