FS: Black 96 Eclipse - SOLD

I've got a black Eclipse that I've decided to list.  I love how it plays, but I just don't know if these high output mini-buckers are my thing.  If I had less projects going on I'd try experimenting with different pickups (I think lower output mini-buckers would be much more my style), but right now I'm busy fooling with my Epiphone Lazarus.

I just polished the frets and they feel fantastic.  Action is about 3.5/64 on the treble side, about 4/64 on the bass.  No buzz or dead notes.  The guitar looks great, but it's got a million little dings and scratches.  None of the dings and scratches go through the finish (there were a couple chips, but they were touched up with paint).  On any other color, you wouldn't see 90% of these marks. It's got some Hamer-itus on both sides of the fretboard, but none around the heel.

Comes with a non-original (but very appropriate!) hard case and matching strap.  The strap is brand new.

Includes hard shell and brand new strap:

Great frets.  Virtually no wear:

Nothing around the heel:

Bumps & bruises.  These are generally less obvious in person, but I tried to hit all the right angles to show them off.  As I mentioned above, in almost any other color you wouldn't see 90% of these, and most of these aren't nearly as noticeable in person as in these pictures.

Not sure what went on here, but if it was self defense, I hope it was successful!

Oh, damn…. That looks dead sexy in black. And I love the natural “relic’ing”

Means that it was worth playing enough to earn those bruises…

I don’t need another guitar, I don’t need another guitar, I don’t need another guitar…. I’m supposed to be looking for an amp…

Weight?

Well…. We know why you didn’t ask about the neck carve. It’s a mid 90’s Hamer and we all know what the neck is like: super comfortable perfect medium C

But, why in the name of all that is the actual holy fuck did you not cum right outta the gates with the acoustic voice question…?

I feel like you’re slipping…

is the NUT painted black and worn at the fingerboard edges? Thanks

No.  Hamer apparently clearcoated the guitars after the nut was installed, and the clearcoat is delaminated somewhat from the nut, just like it is on the side of the fretboard, i.e. hameritus.

I'm bringing this back to the top.  I swapped in a Duncan SSM-1N and a SM-3 in the bridge, and apparently mini humbuckers still aren't for me.

Price is the same, but now it includes the new pickups plus I'll put the originals in the hard case with it.  It also comes with the checkerboard strap so you can pretend that you're Rick Neilsen when you rip all those sweet Cheap Trick licks on it.

… if they didn’t have such thin necks then this would be the one I’d jump on. Great looking guitar

I haven't played it in a while, but I recall it being more of a medium C profile.  It's definitely not thin like the early 90s Specials.  I'd be happy to take some measurements if you'd like.

Curiosity got the best of me so I measured the neck.  21.3mm(.84") thick at the first fret and 22.8mm(.90") thick at the 12th fret.  Thicker than a Gibson 60s slim taper, but not a 59 neck either.  I'd say it's a solid medium.

I guess you should never assume. I've just always heard that the Eclipse necks were really thin. That neck sounds a lot like my Daytona (0.84 to 0.88) which is pretty comfortable

so, an honest question for the HFC braintrust:  Is this overpriced, or is there just too little demand for the Eclipses?  Usually when I price something too high, I get no shortage of people telling me as such, and at least a few lowball offers.  I seem to be getting none of that, not just here, but on Reverb and on Facebook Marketplace.

I listed a Special here recently, no offers, low-ball or otherwise, but no "you are crazy asking that much" messages. (At least not to me LOL.) I would tend not to offer you a low-ball price because I think what you asked is reasonable. BUT what would get me interested is if you posted it at $500 and every board member replied "smokin' deal someone should jump on that" 😂

I think Reverb "sold" prices lead to inflated expectations since they show the asking price and not the sales price.

I am fairly new here but I think maybe this board is a great place for rare finds and accessories but everyone who wants a ________ already has one. However, that wouldn't explain your lack of offers on FB/Reverb etc.

Good luck. I will be watching this thread to see if "BizProfessorGuy" (forgot his username) replies "this is overpriced" 😉

Edit: @Biz Prof (I was close)

I think it's probably more the latter than the former.
That sort of implies that if demand for a given model is down, then the price must be too high, but I think that the price is fair for those who are into that model.
Dropping the price to something crazy like $500 would certainly draw in folks who are indifferent to them, but your ask, IMO, is the cheapest you can ever expect to pay for a complete USA Hamer anymore.

thanks.  I was kind of feeling the same.  Any US Hamer under a grand seems like a deal to me, but I guess i need to find that guy that wants a black Hamer with a somewhat odd body shape and mini humbuckers.
