Shielding and P90s?

Question

I understand the norm is to shield the control cavity and cover and tie to common ground.

Is there any benefit to shielding the bottom of the pickup cavities as well, same ground?

I do! Nothings gonna keep out a screwed up bar light blasting out neutron noise bursts. But I think it helps. I'd like to hear the P90 QuietCoils from Mojotone. I put a Set of their 58 single Quietcoils in my Melancon. Not only are they noiseless they sound fantastic!!

Quiet Coil P-90s sound great. I am ordering a hot bridge unit, as the stock bridge unit is just a bit too tame for the music Im playing. Of course, compared to the face melting SD Hot P-90s that Hamer used, a napalm bomb seems tame.

If the hotter Mojo unit works for me, I'll have a regular spec bridge unit to sell.

I have a set of Mojotone Hot Quiet Coil P-90 pickups installed on my 1993 Special. I uninstalled the OEM Seymour Duncan Hot & Custom P-90 pickups since I found them to be noisy for the amount of gain that I wanted to use. Hot Quiet Coils are quiet and I can smack the amp with as much gain without the guitar squealing like a banshee. The tone is slightly hotter, but not as hot as the SD Custom that was originally installed on the guitar.

The cream covers with the red looks killer.

I'll second the Mojotones.  I don't remember who here had talked them up in a thread, but I ordered them almost immediately.

Hmmm. I'm on Mojotone's mailing list and just got this email offering me Noiseless P90s. It included a clip. Some how the clip is not " Somebody's Watching You".

Maybe it's the Princeton he is playing through, but they sound compressed to me. The Gravelins I have do not, albeit through the stock #10 Fender emulation PSA-1 (which is PFG!). I'll see if I'm talented enough to dial it back to match.

It's not the Gravelins I'm on about. They seem remarkably quiet in the Godin LG-SP90. The B&G HB sized P90s in the Godin Core are very noisy, but the guitar has no shielding anywhere. I am considering Kinman's given I seem to have the depth for them and the number of times I heard the reference here.

Is Kinman's website designed to keep people out?

Try asking them a question that's been already answered somewhere on their awful website.  They'll treat you like you're an idiot, and send you the text and position on the website - rudely.  And you'll still buy their pickups.  Because you are, in fact, an idiot.

It's funny because it's true

Got the Hot Quiet Coil earlier this week and installed it in the bridge position this morning. I'll give a more detailed tone report later, but it sounds mildly hotter than the standard Quiet Coil yet still much tamer than the stock Duncan. That's a good thing.

I installed a Wolfetone Mean in the neck and a Meaner in the bridge position of my 93 Special. Wolfe reverse wound one for noise cancelling with both pickups selected and volumes matched. They have kind of a vintage vibe really sweet.

Cavity shielding complete. The nickel paint is off Amazon. I do three layers. They have smaller bottles. The switch cavity self grounds through the switch. The two pup routs through a wire held down with Stew-Mac shielding tape. The tapes sticks very well and the ground from anywhere to the output jack is solid, Jackson.

Wow. Amazing results. Noise is now very low background. B&G Super90s are very nice pickups!

How many guitars "roughly" would you guess that bottle covers?

I reckon I'm up to four now with a quarter bottle left. I do three coats as overkill. There is apparently some kind of standard where you look for one ohm per inch, but the research I did was years ago. I also let it dry between coats like next day dry. That's inconvenient, but it is effective.

I did try the GFS offering, but it pales in comparison.
