Foo FIGHTers on SNL

Never heard of Nate Bargatze before but last night he was part of the best episode of SNL since the last time Matt Damon hosted.

I was excited already knowing the Foo Fighters were the musical guest, but when Christopher Walken showed up in the cold open l knew he was going to make their appearance even better. IYKYK.

Their second spot featuring H.E.R. was great as well.

Nate Bargatze is a solid comedian.  I’m not even sure he translated well in that live, scripted show, but he’s known for more of a folksy, self-deprecating delivery.  I think he did fine in that format, especially since SNL can beat a joke to death and drag out skits sometimes.  Glad they cut the George Washington skit right before it crossed that line!

I've seen Nick's standup and he's a likeable funny guy.  His opening monologue was really good and there was a decent number of good sketches.  It's rare that they have a real ROCK band as the musical guest so having the Foos was nice too.  IMO it was the best episode since Aubrey Plaza hosted.

I only saw the first song by the FF. Gotta say that they didn't sound much better, or were any more interesting, than a good high school garage band. I guess I don't get it.

It was definitely good to see an actual rock band on SNL.

However, I was a little disappointed that this guy didn't show up this year:

That's how I feel about Mammoth WVH.

I shouldn't throw stones at the FF, they are obviously a huge success and very serious rockers.

...for a good high school garage band.

I'm neither enamored of the Foos, nor do I feel the need to dog them.  I guess I'm indifferent about them, although I agree with a couple of others here who like the idea of something remotely resembling guitar rock resurfacing on SNL after a long hiatus filled with profane hip hop robots, intentionally awkward indie tripe, and mindless pop pulp.

If somebody would come along playing something honest, no computers no pedals just plug in and rip like Molly Hatchet in the '70s, I think it would blow up really big..

They are. Latest album, "Heavy Hymnal", just came out a few months ago.

Nate's been selling out 2000+ seat theaters for the last couple of years and his 2024 tour looks like it's mostly big ass arenas. I'll stick to my opinion that standup is best seen in smaller venues and clubs but good on Nate.

Thank whatever god you believe in or don't that that gawdawful skid DIDN'T appear!

That may be both SNL and Tom Hanks' lowest point.

FF have always sounded like a Mentos commercial to me.

I most assuredly do not get their massive appeal.

I just about laughed 'til I cried the first time I saw that one, but when they repeated it they ruined it.  Then they did that stupid animated Halloween special of it.  I thought it was hilarious...for a minute.

That has been their MO since Day 1.

You thought it was hilarious about a minute longer than I did then! 😉

I sometimes think the stupidest and most absurd things are funny.  Why do you think I hang out here?
