I didn't know I could hold my breath that long. My wife loved it. I'm not kidding when I say this is my second family (sometimes first). Ask Kizanski. He had to field all my panic questions (thanks, Mike!). THANK YOU, Ted! Sending all the good vibes, juju, mojo, butter., etc etc etc that I can muster. - Today

Reporting weirdness, as instructed. When I opened this thread: I got a message the site was asking to open another page: That seems pretty suspicious. Running Safari on iPhone. Thanks for all your diligence, Ted! Everything else is running fantastically. Great to be back! -

Its a nice bass ,looks to be all original but there pictures didn't show what showed up at my house. They offered me 50.00 off of 1325.00 but they also offered to take it back and pay for return shipping. They treated me fair in my book. -
All his are great stories, but the blue Strat is a great story.

Mine has it too. But since I’ve had the bass since 1985 I am sorta proud of the checking. Very awesome bass. -

Not to be contradictory (but I guess I am) but... with "relic-ing" being such a fad for a while now, there may be those who do want it, especially if it's the real thing. Anyway, you can't hear the checking, unless maybe you're Eric Johnson. -

The checking is not desirable, but it is sort of normal. -

They still sound great, I saw them live in March and they were amazing! -
Another Special from 1982 is trying to get sold for big bucks - $7,118 with $600 shipping. https://reverb.com/item/100047741-hamer-special-1982-unique-rare-union-jack-glitter-sparkle-relic-cherry-orange Usual going price for early 1980s Special is around $2,000. So, why $5K markup? Because seller says that painted Union Jack is worth extra $5K!!!! Original factory finishes are scarce and demand high prices, and that's what the seller implies here, yet if you look closer at the pics you'll notice that: 1) Under the paint it looks like a normal wood grain of a thin veneer Special top. 2) Red paint surface is bubbly and uneven, not something you'd expect from Hamer workshop at the time (especially evident in pic #14). This looks more like an overspray one would do in their garage. 3) Red paint is applied over dings - see pic #8. New guitar at the factory would not have these dings, it's obvious that well played instrument was used for painting over. To me this looks like an aftermarket amateur paint job and sorry attempt to extract big money from the buyers.
