Some restraint on the avatars, please?

Does anyone else share my concern regarding some of the avatars that are appearing on the main board?

I think that there is a fine line between images that are fun and humorous and those that demonstrate overt bad taste. I'm not opposed to bad taste, but I think there is a time and place . . .

Remember, this is a site provided through Ted's hard work. This may sound harsh, but I think we shoud treat it with respect rather than turning it into a cyber version of a truckstop bathroom wall.

We've had this discussion before and it ultimately led to the creation of the Outer Circle. I'd like to keep the main board child and spouse safe. I'm not proposing censorship, just a bit of awareness and self-restraint.

So do I. I've got nothing against bad taste or porn, or porn that's in bad taste, but there is a time and place for everything. This is a guitar forum, not an adult forum. Kids can get here and bosses can look over your shoulder and make a call on it.

Under My Controls ==>Board Settings,

Do you wish to view members avatars when reading topics? ==> NO

This new board is great.

I have to agree. As much as I love jiggling boobies (like jumprope girl), I think they might be on the border of not being work/child/wife safe. This was less of an issue when we had the 48x48's, but the new 64's are more visible from over the shoulder.

For the avatars and signature pix, let's keep it PG-rated or less. That's my 2 cents.

Look at the bright side - we can still post in the Outer Circle with the requisite NSFW warnings. Then the pictures can be bigger.

Jumprope girl has left the building.

And, uh.... will she be visiting the OC anytime soon? :D

"Howard Johnson is right!" That's a classic! Now I'm gonna have to watch that movie again.

So I guess we've just given the Board Police one more thing to check for?

I have seen nothing beyond PG-13 yet. That is fine, unless and I emphasize this, Ted decides to make rules on avatars. Right now there are none and unless folks start posting R-rated stuff then there shouldn't be.

I think that in this instance, we've taken a step to modify things before the Board Police show up. "Self-restraint" is the operative theme here. I'd rather we took care of this stuff ourselves than waiting for the almighty one to come crashing down on us. Frankly, I'm surprised by his absence so far. Maybe he's waiting to see how we handle things....

If you haven't seen anything over PG-13, you've missed a few beauties recently. As mentioned above, one has left the building already. No fuss, no muss!

No, sorry. You'll have to stick with that picture of Rosie O'Donnell for now.

I liked butt girl almost as much a jumprope girl. Yowza!

I agree. I like to show my girls some of the things on the board every now and then but it's embarrassing to see some of this stuff posted by grown men. I don't mind it myself but I don't like them to see it.

Someone mentioned turning off the avatar views, but could it be set up for one avatar for the main board and sale board, and another avatar or preference setting for the outer circle?

I'm also in agreement. Again, I have no problems with viewing this stuff personally, but the other night my 6-year-old walked up behind me and asked why there was a picture of a butt on my screen (thank GOD it wasn't Poe's or I'd be putting aside some serious therapy money!).

I also don't think that this is a matter of censorship or anything ridiculous like that. We all hit the "I Agree" button, which indicates that we're all capable of exercising some restraint with what we post/display - part of that whole thing is agreeing to be considerate of the other board posters. I don't think that a member's right to post a somewhat explicit picture/GIF/whatever should trump the rest of the members' rights to view and post other avatars. Personal opinion only, and I'm chipping in to the discussion with my half a $20...

Edited to add that ANY picture of Rosie O'Donnell is offensive...the white gorilla cracked me up!

If you're letting your kids look at stuff here, turn the avatars off..

I think the bare assed and the fat chick with the huge basketball titts is a bit much, but not any worse than that poor guy that keeps showing up on the main site over and over for people that won't post a photo of themselves.

Dump that guy and use a cool photo of RN of some Hamer guitar photo instead.

out..

Jeff.

I think the huge Ads for peoples bands and businesses are more annoying than the ass girl. Why don't you people just put a link or a little logo. After we have all seen it 100 times it gets old. We already know who is in a band and who is a dealer. I have a young daughter also and if she sees the asses or the stupid robot humping I will just turn off the Avatars. I am a visitor here so I don't expect the rules to be changed to suit me thats up to the webmaster who is doing a good job and should be given credit for putting up with all the whining.
