  1. I remember being a kid and loving that crackling, AM radio breakup of Denny Laine's intro to "Band on the Run", by Wings. It made me feel all tingly. The next one was (oddly enough), the intro chords to "Love is Like Oxygen" by Sweet. Next was Brian May in "Rhapsody", but that was right around the time I started getting more into music and listening to guitar. I was into old KISS in 6th Grade, but probably couldn't pick out anything in particular there. I got into Cheap Trick right after that and the first guitarist I remember being floored by was Neil Geraldo. Right as I started playing guitar, Rick Witkowski's (Crack the Sky) tearing-up-the-speaker-cones tone was "IT "! That stuff still haunts me...
  2. The WHO, the Clash, The Hooters (was only marred by the yawnfest that was Santana) in Philly back in '82. Another great one was Cheap Trick opening for STP in '96 (or was it '97?). Wow.
  3. I stopped reading Rolling Stone and cancelled a longtime subscription in the 80s. They had Don Johnson on the cover TWICE in a year. Don Johnson. Twice. I have only glanced at it once or twice since then. It had pretty much jumped the shark by that point.
  4. Yeah, but if they don't, Henry or FMIC WILL !! Speaking of which, has Gibson released that Anna Nicole tribute Super 400 yet?
  5. Go get 'em! Have a great day, guys.
  6. This isn't helping! Dayum. Maple neck on that bad mofo. Nice job - can't wait to see it finished!!
  7. I did notice that and pointed it out to my wife, who replied with a thoughtful "Hmmmm".
  8. I've got a sweet Gretsch Catalina Birch set. Great kit for the money, and I bought a set, so you know they're cheapskate friendly!
  9. While I agree that Prince is far better than that, given the conditions, the network/FCC scrutiny (!!!) and the venue, I thought it was great that he didn't lip-synch some BS and actually PLAYED GUITAR. Was it his best night? Not by a longshot. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. The fact that there was no Prefab boy or girl band or rap BS flash out there made it a good one for me.
  10. That was a great little interlude. Covering the FOO?!!?! Grohl's gotta be on cloud 9. That was great.
  11. Not super original, apparently, but Ace Frehley's 3 pickup LP. When I first opened up "Alive II" in 6th Grade, that one grabbed my attention. My first good guitar was a Cherry Sunburst LP Custom that I still have (it just looks a little different now...) Right after that, it was Rick N's Standards. And blue Greco Iceman. And Korina Flying Vee. (and so on, and so on...)
  12. That's a MAMMAL, not a fish...
  13. Wow! Just like mine, but with EMGs and no p/g. I highly approve - you'll love it.
  14. Already asked. Already a "no"! I think they want to preserve the integrity of the design before monkeying around with the formula. I'm anxiously waiting for one to turn up at my local dealer so I can take the afternoon off and check it out!
  15. I am trying SO hard not to cave and buy one. Now, if I could score the single pickup R4 (ish) LP, I'd drop everything...
  16. Ditto on those. Serial's VOS R4 is light, mean and easy to love. It changed my mind.
  17. I think THIS is what y'all were looking for: Them boys wuz bringin' th'rawk that night, f'sherrrrr.
  18. In the meantime, I'll measure that B-12A case if you'd like. It is the same size on the outside that my longscale Standard 8 string bass case was, but maybe an inch shorter lengthwise. I'll email you the dimensions if you'd like. CM
  19. If its the Bass I'm thinking about, I'll be happy to "hold" it for you! Actually, I've got a case that MAY work, but it's a B-12A case (New old stock). It might need some interior modding? I'll take a look at it tonight. If you ever decide to move that bass Frank (the one we almost did a deal on years ago), PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know!
  20. I don't think that Ed was as big of an @$$#013 back in the day - I think that he seriously started losing his mind in the late 80s/early 90s. Right around the time he became irrelevant. I'm still a huge fan of the 70s/80s VH, esp the DLR stuff. His sound was just exciting - I can't think of another word for it. It still rips. Newer stuff...forgettable.
  21. This is when Eddie was fun: Eddie on Dave (Letterman)
  22. If you waited that long for him to pay, he can cool his heels until the damned thing gets to him. I'd move on and not worry about it at all.
  23. One time is all the lesson I'd need. F him.
