Definitely a good cause. A GREAT one. Also, if you choose to make a donation to the charity, Ted pinned the information with the American Diabetes Ass'n information this morning. See above... It is REALLY easy to make a donation: Secure American Diabetes Memorial Donation link Mailing it directly to the Cherry Hill, NJ location does go through that local chapter. Using the link below, you can designate where the funds go: Cherry Hill, NJ Chapter

That was the most resonant sawed-off triangle of mahogany I've ever heard. Played. Uh, struck with a mallet... -

That was too freakin' funny! I'd LOVE to hear that recorded... I've also used a few of Stike's witticisms ("Kicks more ass than a cross-eyed Rockette", etc.) -
He's one of those guys who you know instantly when you hear him. A great loss, but he made a helluva contribution in his time.

cmatthes replied to sw686blue's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Alright. Enough. This board is for discussions about Hamer guitars, music, technique, etc. If you would like to post about other things, political, off-topic, off-color, etc., that's WHY we created the Outer Circle forum. If you want to post there, it's basically open for anything as long as you can keep it civil. This thread is now locked, and we can do without a follow up thread. Vent your spleen(s) elsewhere please. Thanks. -

Jason - I don't have a backplate for that particular one. I don't recall seeing that style before. I'll post one of your pics from home tonight to see if anybody else has one like that. It looks similar to an old (pre-#0100) 4-digit Standard plate instead of the triangular style. -

Jason - do you have a shot of the back? I have several odd (as in not the Standard/Studio triangle shaped) anodized aluminum Hamer backplates that I have no use for and would gladly send you one if I should happen to have what ya need. -
Should I spring for the Korina?

Should I spring for the Korina?
cmatthes replied to Beergoblin's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
John: The upcharge to go from Mahogany to Korina (body and neck) should be @ $1,000 - $1,200 +/- . I think that he is talking about the advertised prices for a Flametopped Standard v. a straight Korina Standard out of dealer stock like the Wilcutt pics he attached. I know when I priced it out a couple of years ago, the direct quote from Hamer was over $800 (I think it was $450 for neck and $400 for body??). -

I completely agree with Serial. Don't believe the hype - Korina is not always lighter than Mahogany! I've played Korina Standards that were like freakin' cinderblocks on a strap, and have owned regular mahogany Standards that would blow away in a stiff breeze. If you're ordering strictly on the weight basis, you can always request a lightweight body (you may have to pay a little extra for that). If you're trying to round out you tonal palette, definitely give the Korina a try (but also make sure that you get a light piece). I agree with MCC here as well - the extra "Bark" factor is an apt description to my ears. -
Monaco Elite history? Elite owner stories?

That Vee is one of the finest Hamers on the planet, PERIOD. I wonder if that gave Dean Z the inspiration or vice-versa...it's a SCARY early one!!
