Butchered Hamer Monaco III
DaveL replied to DarkHammer's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
“Tasteful and player driven upgrades”. That’s classy!! -
I didn’t know him but I greatly enjoyed talking on the board with him about the LA scene (especially the Guns N Roses wardrobe switch from dolled up tarts to dirty biker chic just before appetite came out, skillfully avoiding the future wrath of Beavis and butthead) He was funny as fuck and comically… on another level… kiz is pretty funny too but I digress… I always looked forward to his posts and sorry that he’s going thru this.

That looks great... nice job grabbing that one! -
1995 Eclipse 12 String... this is the GC eclipse from a month or so ago... plays nice, sounds nice, pretty clean for it's age, frets are in decent shape, not much in the way of physical wear, a few light nicks, but no large dings or chips. Some tarnish on the pickup covers, very light hameritis around the joint. I got it from GC and was a little surprised at the condition, I cleaned up the fretboard, polished the frets restrung and it's really solid. The case looks like a TKL case however it has purple velour and no Hamer logo, it does however fit the guitar perfectly. perfectly cool axe but I like my new FM and bought alot of stuff lately... catch and release on this one. Lastly, the guitar looks cherry in the photos but it almost looks vintage orange imho. SOLD

Hi, some progress updates... I cleaned glue residue, sanded, grain filled... I used a walnut filler, which didn't quite pop... I hit it with a light hit of watco danish oil in walnut which did the trick, not vintage correct, but I thought it gave it a nice antiqued look... I'm going to let it cure for a week... use some light sanding sealer and then start the nitro (Oxford Vintage formula). so far, I've been happy enough with this project that I grabbed another Korina V from PGK's in stock bodies. (ETA next week). I'm going to talk to them about the possibility of a 1 pickup V kit... (which I'm sure is an upcharge) for some kind of V Junior mashup. pics... contemplated a stinger, but I don't think I can cover this up...

circus of power. The choice of cover is fitting. Swamp boogie from NYC. FTW

So last thursday... I posted the GC PSA about their sale... (10% off, plsu 10% GC bucks if you use the credit card, sale ends tonight BTW) friday afternoon, no one jumped on the FM Special and I said, f it, I'll grab that thing as I have a thing for Aztec Gold FM's pretty solid... some fretwear, but very playable. light dings but finish fully intact, no hameritis along the fretboard and I suspect it's a late '93 as the profile is closer to the slightly fuller 94/95's Top nicer than the terrible GC pics and I love that the finish has darkened to a vintage amber. I got a nice surprise when I opened it up... nicely packed with OHSC. so nice I almost wanted to keep the box and the fixins but I left it. good deal.

I always thought he was cool, always used to stare at the cover of guitars and women when I was a kid… I didn’t realize he wrote and produced “still alive and well”. What a kickass tune.

That looks fantastic. Did you do anything to get the top to pop like that during the initial yellow/gold coat?

For all those who have reissue Les Pauls

agree... I miss the guy too, and I don't really miss some of those other dudes who were tossed... BTW: recommend following Greg on FB as he has some nice content and pics, -

It’s the weed addled posts I miss the most. Btw. I did move on to Gibson (three Murphy Labs that I love) Nash, Rock N Roll Relics and parts builds… and a Dean time capsule that I get to look at every day. still a soft spot for hamer (artist and eclipse). If you can get em for a good deal and they aren’t abused… they’re as good a value as anything. Wish I grabbed that M3 dirt cheap at Dave’s this week. -
Yes… pricing on the korina v kits are up there so it was a nice deal!
-
Thanks. Yes, I love this grain. Was surprised by the quality of the wood. I’m going with something in the vintage hot variety. (Duncan Saturday Night Specials, OX4’s or Wolfetones) I do have some Gravelines that I haven’t tried yet.

For anyone considering a kit build, here is a really good thread on tgp that I’m referring to as I started on this one. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/pgk-korina-flying-v-build.2544746/

Did, I just become a loothier? YUP!! lol pics of my precision guitar parts kit... got it for a good deal used. I did some light sculpting of the heel.. My training was watching Mike Shishkov do it for 15 minutes at the 2003 Hamer Open house... glued it... (clamps from harbour freight $4 each) and resting peacefully. Will get to grain filling soon. My plan is to shoot it with aged clear nitro... and then hit it with Oxford Vintage formula nitro and lightly relic and check it... I think the grain looks pretty good. More pics to come. edit... out of clamps and I cleaned up the heel a little more, not as elegant as a Hamer or Gibson Custom Shop but I was happy with it... done by eye with a rasp and a file (more harbour freight) I could have rounded it more but I didn't want to take away extra material. Seems like a very resonant neck and body. Weight is 4 lbs 15 oz as is, guessing high 7, low 8 f;;lly loaded.

life sex and death. Schools for fools Late 80’s metal was interesting Started getting rawer (zodiac Mindwarp, circus of power, manitobas wild kingdom) trending towards alt I think Very cool but overlooked Lead singer Stanley. Kind of a freak. Note: hamer content.

Oh nice… Steve Conte and Sammi play with Micheal Monroe… those guys are great.

This one hurts… the NY Dolls were my portal from being a teenage suburban metalhead to punk rock… The Dolls, dictators, Ramones, blondie, Johnny thunders and the heartbreakers and so many more. It does not get better than this…. And I’ll throw kiss in that mix, there are times when Paul Stanley was channeling David… and Aerosmith was taking notes at Max’s Kansas City RIP David

PSA - EVH relics $750 @ Adorama
DaveL replied to Tortious's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
I'll bet it's overstock. I remember when they blew out the USA pro mods dirt cheap ($500-600) back in the 2010's I seem to recall people keeping the necks and parting out the rest. -
Nice. Accept deserved better
