  1. Jack White as a mumbling Elvis in "Walk Hard" pretty funny... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQxZzZTHB4A
  2. I had always though Elliot Easton playing a Dean ML on the back of "Candy O" (or I think that was the album) was the COOLEST My vote: Charvel and it's really not the same as Jackson, Charvel's can be taken apart, put back together (although some people abuse this) painted all crazy... just a boatload of fun if you ask me...
  3. I'm a big fan of the charvel pro mods... I'd like to see a hamer special in a thin matte finishe in either black or cherry with grovers. I think the problem would be for Hamer to get the price down to where they want to be (it has to be cheap if they want to actually SELL them) they might have to consider doing a run in say corona california... and I agree with what Hollowskull is saying, there definitely would be some question whether there's enough demand in the eyes of consumers/dealers and also, whether it will cannibalize or change the perception of the rest of their stuff. That said, I do think the pro mods have succeeding in getting the attention of people who would never have picked up a charvel to give the rest of their product line a serious look.
  4. candy apple red http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/msg/1598204307.html
  5. really cool article on Charvel from the upcoming issue of Guitar World... http://www.charvel.com/pdf/Charvel_GW_Story_low.pdf
  6. Not so much Jacksons, but I recently entered the world of San Dimas Charvels... That stuff is really interesting. The the whole parts thing with guys building their own guitars is pretty to cool watch... I have a star body being painted in blue metal flake by Stike as we speak, will have pics in a couple days...
  7. Anyone who asks you to drop the dispute BEFORE he ships is a little sketchy in my book. Once it's dropped, there is zero recourse for a buyer. He can easily clear this by either: 1) refunding the money or 2) shipping the product and having paypal verify delivery. I'm going to guess... the bridge isn't close to being shipped. Maybe he is sick, but I'm surprised by the lack of professionalism. If it were me, he'd probably be sick of my phone calls or emails at this point, and he'd just ship the thing...
  8. a couple thoughts... I love Hamer with all my heart, but there's a better chance of me wearing a NY Jets jersey to work three days in a row than paying $1800 for a tally... In a perfect world, Hamer should have a satin or oil finished one pickup special, but I think they tried the low cost model in the 90's and it didn't quite work... if they did it today it would just cannibalize their higher end stuff. My favorite guitar right now is a charvel usa production model tele which you can buy all day long for under a grand... Charvel really has a nice thing going right now with being under the Fender umbrella and using their production support to build batches. They also allow them to use the strat headstock...
  9. Lemmy... I can't believe he has any brain cells left after all the touring and drinking. He probably could make a living playing bit parts/extras in Hollywood. If you've ever seen "Decline of Western Civilization II, The Metal Years" he was pretty much the only guy who didn't come across like a total moron... highly recommend that movie BTW...
  10. bash Fender all you want... but there are other companies that have been better at reading the changing marketplace than Hamer. Perhaps a custom shop house is their lot in life... I spend my life in manufacturing, inventory control and materials management... I feel the pressure of the world economy every day of the week. I sometimes look at those list prices and wonder if Hamer is oblivious to it... my apologies if I'm too harsh.
  11. you can never go wrong with motorhead, they just have a universal coolness... but that said, you did well changing the single coils to black...
  12. Absolutely right, not many people think about it, but they really contribute to the classic VH sound...
  13. Hey, If YOKO can scramble john lennon's brain it kind of makes you afraid to see what this woman is capable of well... I guess we're seein it ha ha
  14. sweet... ya gotta share, who in this world, sells an FM for $149? pawn shop?
  15. I think if a guitar stays in tune well, typically all the other things (tone, resonances etc) falls into place. Some guitars are just different than others. I do believe there are guitars that are stunningly beautiful that can be dogs. That said, sometimes a guitar can fool you. I just bought a tele with callaham tuners and expensive glendale saddles. I couldn't believe someone who had such good taste about cool vintage repro stuff could set up a guitar so badly. I swapped everything back to original and put on .010's and the thing slays...
  16. I paid $50 for the Circus Of Power debut CD... quote worst buying of all times: walmart's 10.99$ 80's hard rock selection (3 collections) -it did'nt say anywhere that it was NOT performed by the original bands- a total waste of money Wal-Mart says you can't open returned stuff, but that sounds misleading to me, I would have complained. Then again, I have a best of LA Guns that is all the same songs but they were re-recorded. I HATE when they do that.
  17. That's actually a pretty cool guitar. I don't think I've seen one that clean in a long time. There aren't that many 97 FM's and P-90 specials compared to earlier years. I've always chased them because they thickened up the neck profiles slightly compared 93's
  18. why would anybody pay extra for a guitar with fancy inlays on the fretboard (like dragons or wizards or dare I say it BOOMERANGS), bound headstock with your name under the logo, or maybe a top cut from a stump in the swamp with streaking due to a high mineral content? It wouldn't be THE LOOKS would it? It's all vanity in it's own little way. some people are just afraid to admit it...
  19. If it makes people happy, who really cares... I don't think it's any sillier than Hamer cutting 30 pieces of abalone inlay to make it around the corner of a cutaway.
  20. sounds great pricewise, just make sure you ask the right questions. Are there any breaks in the finish? is the neck joint ok? original parts? etc... you also may want to insist on a couple pics...
  21. I think that's my old one that I sold ten years ago for $265 It actually played pretty nice... BTMN, start drivin!!!
  22. Somebody actually got my Michael Scott (The Office) reference?! It's amazing how many people don't get it when I post it in "what should I do in NYC?" threads, some folks get borderline violent. Check out The Lakeside Lounge on Avenue B. It's owned by Eric Roscoe Amble, fun place. The Sbarro line was a classic Office moment. Micheal's fascination with Chili's also cracks me up... As for NYC? If you're at the bus station, I recommend no direct eye contact, other than that I got nuthin...
  23. What is a themed Guitar? A guitar that becomes an extension of your personality !!! For example if you are a Trekkie, We can build you a Star Trek themed guitar !! If you like the New York Yankees, We can build you a NY Yankees Themed Guitar. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love how he's picturing guitars that he DIDN'T make and is name dropping like "John Entwistle gave me the blueprint for this guitar" but someone else made the guitar in the picture.
