Interesting new 2014 Les Paul model...
crunchee replied to oldskoolrulz's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Maybe there's a discount to be had, by asking how much they'd knock off the price, for selling it with just plain knobs, a plain tailpiece, and a plain truss rod cover? -
Interesting new 2014 Les Paul model...
crunchee replied to oldskoolrulz's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
No tree-huggin' hippie is gonna buy a NEW guitar, it isn't eco-friendly! Especially after Henry's problems with the Feds in recent years. That reminds me, I wonder what happened to all those 'Smartwood' LPs from several years ago? -
Gift cards, mainly. I leave the shopping for musical gear to me, and me alone...partly because I tend to agonize over purchases and try to get the best deal, but mainly because my family doesn't share my enthusiasm for making noise...er, music.

Screw the 2014 No Buy Guitar/Bass Pledge!
crunchee replied to Carl.B's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
All I can do is offer my sincere congrats...especially since I don't have anything to sell. I'm sure that you're looking to relieve a LOT of G.A.S....I dunno if you should light a match or not in such an extreme case, though. -
Can freezing cold/thawing snap a truss rod?
crunchee replied to carfish7's question in Ask the HFC Experts
Just curious, was this car parked out in the open and have good sun exposure during those 2 days? It wouldn't have made the car summertime hot, but it could have made the temperature inside the car go above freezing during the day, then down below again at night. That kind of temperature fluctuation wouldn't have helped, IMO. -
USA Hamer Std and Vector FOR SALE
crunchee replied to musicman's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Nice...unfortunately, either one would bust my REGULAR budget, much less my Holiday budget! So, regretfully... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzHfQk7ATU0 -
I once bought an amp that took a right hand turn (no, not at Albuquerque) at the big UPS depot in N. Illinois, and went to Washington state instead of farther south to me. It had the correct address on it so it wasn't the seller's doing, but UPS apparently put it on the wrong truck or train or whatever. I finally got it about a week and a half later, thankfully no worse for wear.

83' Sunburst - Prices increasing or decreasing?
crunchee replied to Craig S's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
One thing that I have noticed, is that asking and/or starting prices for gear on FeeBay seems to have climbed, since FeeBay started their "free" listing strategy. Sellers keep selling the same old thing week after week for the same high price, trying to get a buyer to bite...and since there's no money involved with an item that doesn't sell, sellers just keep trying. They'll only reduce the price when they get tired of listing, or get hard up for the cash. -
83' Sunburst - Prices increasing or decreasing?
crunchee replied to Craig S's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
+1! I got a helluva deal on a semi-vintage amp last year on FeeBay around Thanksgiving...because nobody else seemed to be buying or was interested...or simply didn't have the cash to spare during the Holidays. I couldn't have found a better deal any other time. Like Bubs said, it's a lousy time of year to sell. That doesn't necessarily translate to deep discounts when buying from dealers and shops, though. -
Indivuduals That Sell Stuff To Music Stores
crunchee replied to elduave's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Exactly^^^People think that you're supposed to alleviate them of their stuff and resell it at a loss, or no profit at all. Or they're just not thinking. Everybody has to sell their first guitar sometime, and it might be the first thing they ever tried to sell. +1. It's a good way to learn, that if somebody at a retail store not only agrees, but actually WANTS to pay the seller's asking price, there is something VERY wrong going on. -
'Tis true...I once shipped a Hamer USA Archtop GT to myself years ago (I was on temporary duty in the military someplace away from my primary station, but I still had to have a guitar!), and the switch snapped, just from the shock from being shipped, and I DID pack it well. Nothing else was harmed, and not a dent in the case or the box, either. I hadn't unscrewed the plastic switch tip from the switch itself, but ever since then I do, every time I've had to ship with those type of switches on the guitar!

Indivuduals That Sell Stuff To Music Stores
crunchee replied to elduave's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Only Newbies and Druggies try to sell something outright at a retail store. -
Nice! I'm not a PRS guy at all though...not for any good reason other than they don't fit into my budget, so I've been more-or-less blissfully ignorant. What's the difference between this and a Custom 22, other than the fretboard inlays?

Sorry to hear this, Ted! I hope these punks get caught quick, it's gotta be more than one of them, and if it is, they won't be able to keep it a secret.
-
I hope they find whoever stole em'...and when they do, bring a couple of baseball bats, so you can find out which sound you prefer, the ash or the maple.

This is a two-note, or maybe three-note sax solo (by Clarence Clemons), but it gets kudos IMO for brevity:

Discussion - Worst Sounding Amp You've Ever Owned...
crunchee replied to coolfeel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Worst sounding amp I had was an old Fender Vibro-Champ (the one with tubes)...I was messing around with it one day, decided to compare the fuse from it with one from a bigger amp, then I put the fuses back in. Unfortunately, I got the fuses switched, so the Vibro-Champ got the larger value fuse. BIG mistake...I'm playing through it, and the amp started getting quieter and quieter, yet more and more distorted...then the sound quit, and it started smelling REALLY bad. Well, so much for THAT transformer. Lesson learned! -
Thinking of passing this one on to a next gen metalhead...
crunchee replied to Oldguitarist's question in Ask the HFC Experts
I had a Blitz bass that was even more beat up than your guitar, same color...pearl white gone to a butter pecan color with use and age. Chips, dings, and weatherchecking just give it character! The only reason I don't have mine anymore is that it was just too much of a armful to play in cramped quarters, without fear of doing damage to it (like a neck break, which it didn't have amazingly enough) or something else. -
Lesser know band that you love
crunchee replied to hikarateboy's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The Muffs, and by extension, Kim Shattuck's previous band, The Pandoras. She shares Cynic's choice in guitars, except hers has the script Gretsch logo across the headstock, rather than the "long T" version that runs lengthwise. Kim Shattuck's now on bass duty with The Pixies, on tour in Europe (replacing Kim Deal): -

Very cool story! And very glad to see that you've gone electric again! Not to derail, but guess what Fender just brought out? http://www.fender.com/series/vintage-modified/68-custom-princeton-reverb-120v/ -

Fender Bringing back the Starcaster and Coronado
crunchee replied to Citrus's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
This color sure reminds me of a Hamer Newport. Makes me wonder how many Newports coulda been built from the budget allotted to the new Coronado and Starcaster series.? -
Fender Bringing back the Starcaster and Coronado
crunchee replied to Citrus's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
There ya go...I think these are squarely aimed for the girlfriend-jeaned, stingy-brimmed hipster crowd. I STILL like the Starcaster, but that's only because I remember them when they were new in the '70's! I'll have to see what happens when I physically hold and play one, because I was never able to do that with the original version. Interesting that Fender didn't use the string-thru hardtail design of the original '70's Starcaster, and went for a Gibson-style TOM bridge instead.
