  1. The only downside that I'd think of on the Sunburst would be the neck dimensions, and there would probably be variations, too...but even that is up somewhat to individual taste. I've had a few 1980 Specials, and I thought the necks on those were a bit narrow and definitely thinner than a 'vintage carve' neck, but I don't know if the same would apply for a Sunburst of the same year/era.
  2. SUBMITTED? Really? Sounds like unpaid work to me, especially when looking for a 'under $300 used' guitar for a four-post newbie. We're good at volunteering suggestions around here at the HFC, though. Especially when the magic word 'please' is used in requesting them.
  3. Or better yet, make the Miller guitar, minus the Miller logo, no advertising...those red logo'd Miller guitars had a flamed maple veneer top, too, so include that. Hey, they're Peter Green approved! IxNay on the later style MGD body shape, though.
  4. Do you still have any of those guitars in the photo?
  5. Happy Birthday! Hope it's been a great one!
  6. I wonder if the seller's got a Jaguar? I can see they've already got a Cougar.
  7. Amp...I'm too lazy to fiddle with pedals to get a sound.
  8. Yeah, but trying to copy Ace on the album cover didn't do my playing technique any favors.
  9. Date on the magazine says June 2007...just about the time the economy started tanking. Coincidence? One thing's for sure, you don't have to be rich to think like that; but boy, does it help.
  10. +1! Anybody here see this article in Premier Guitar? I think Feynman and a few others here at the HFC have mentioned this before, about how much 'classical' instruments (including, but not only, guitars) can cost in comparison to electric guitarists' gear: http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/20364-spoiled-guitarists-that-guitar-costs-emhowem-much?page=1
  11. This is why I don't shop for, or pick up, or play, nice yet expensive stuff. I always end up wanting to take it home.
  12. Oops, just reread the original post, you've already got a flight to the US but need a connection? Doh! The only company in the US that comes to mind, as far as a fairly large 'budget' carrier goes, is Southwest, but I dunno if that's do-able.
  13. Hamers have spoiled me. Then again, so has finding the occasional beat-up example for Tree Fitty...which is pretty much mostly a memory now.
  14. Whatever's handy, and whatever I don't have to pull too much crap out of the closet to get at.
  15. I wonder what the magnetic pull would be like on the strings, if you did have three of those pickups. Three of 'em makes it look like it'd be handy for grating cheese or shredding cabbage.
  16. Not a bad price...for Japan.
  17. He just helps sell cheap crap Chinese guitars...so he can spend the money on a '59 LP.
  18. Pro Audio Series? Sounds more like a car stereo maker, not a guitar company.
  19. Hells YEAH, that's nice! Fergit Pat Methany, I'm thinking more like Scotty Moore!
  20. I kinda threw that in as a topical (for 1964) 'in' joke...Topo Gigio was on Ed Sullivan's show even more than The Beatles were...but you have to be old like me to remember that!
  21. I vaguely remember their first performances (in real time) on Ed Sullivan... I was just a tiny little kid, but still it had an impact on me even then: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/09/beatles-reunion-late-show-with-david-letterman_n_4567439.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd-1KhZfMb4 P.S. Where'd they get the Bieber haircuts?
  22. Under a grand? For a USA build? AND quality parts? Somehow, I don't think that's gonna happen. The old SD Curlee guitars from the '70's had a very similar body shape to the Hamer Special/Gibson Junior/Specials, and it seems like I remember that they were selling in the 'budget' niche of the market back then. I just did a Google search, and apparently SD Curlee has been revived...but the prices are in the Two Grand range. http://www.sdcurleeusa.com/more.htm http://www.sdcurleeusa.com/index.htm Robin Guitars would have been the rough equivalent of what Northfield's suggesting...but there seems to be a reason why Robin is on hiatus...IF they ever come back. Didn't Nathan mention something about Jon Kammerer's almost getting ready to fold up the tent, too? That is, unless it's a no-overhead, word-of-mouth, private builder type of organization. THEN, that might be workable. Ain't I just one big bright ray of sunshine?
