Monaco Superpro CO (Ebony Board) Absolutely beautiful, but also absolutely no objective information on the guitar. What does it weigh? What are the neck dimensions? [/minirant] But here's the "Startling Revelation" I noted in the title. Check this out: Estimated Used Value between $800 and $1,325? I realize that's completely absurd, but how does this affect potential buyers when they see this juxtaposed the asking price of $3,199 (which I think is pretty reasonable)? I haven't noticed this before, but are all Hamers listed given Estimated Values based on 2010 used market prices?

Carter’s Acquires Norm’s Rare Guitars
velorush replied to BoogieMKIIA's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
This is great news (though the odds of me being in Tarzana (IIRC) are somewhere between none and none). I've said it before, Carter's is among my favorite retail establishments of any type anywhere in the world. Try this: go in there and hang out for an hour and just try not to play a guitar. They absolutely want everyone to be playing the stuff hanging on the wall. They handed my son (around 12 at the time) a $50,000 vintage Strat to play just because he said he thought it was cool. They are terrific. -
Another tube preamp. Dumble this time.

Explained: Seriously well-thought-out IMO. -

At $570 it's certainly more accessible than a Dumble. Effects loop and dual DI outs. Nicely done! -
Deadline Extended!! Best of the HFC V
velorush replied to kizanski's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I was watching a video of a professor showing some system that actually showed keystrokes and time between keystrokes made by his students. I can't find it to post, but the professor was grading papers posted to Google's receptacle (Docs?) and he was able to access more or less a play-by-play of the paper's creation and seemed to infer the student didn't know he had that visibility. He tracked time between keystrokes, copy/paste, pauses, and was able to access combined averages for actions that allowed him to draw conclusions about whether the paper was created by a human or AI. The ridiculous part is the professor had to actually do that assessment as well as the normal task of grading the effort, but it was interesting that capability was there. I'm so old I typed college papers. Only in graduate school did we have access to newfangled word processors - WordStar and WordPerfect, IIRC - no mouse and a monochrome monitor - first green then amber. -

FS At Last! 2001 GMP Roxie 541
velorush replied to kizanski's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Fishy: but what would he have to gain? Couple of bucks if he fixed it himself. If he wasn't going to protest and return the guitar, I see no motivation for 'fishiness.' But then again, how could that have possibly been broken off while packed? Maybe someone opened it before the buyer got home and it fell over on the face, breaking off the switch tip. They then started removing the back plate to figure out if they could fix it before the buyer got home, but just as the first screw came out, they heard the door shut as the buyer arrived. They stopped and put the screw in a similar position as the switch tip and feigned ignorance. That's a lot of assumptions, but I'm guessing falling over on that switch tip was the reason for the break. Or, the guitar laid on its face and something fell / leaned on it. -

The only plausible explanation I can conceive is they undid all your tape, opened both boxes, then the case, then grabbed the switch tip with a pair of channel locks, twisted the switch tip off then reassembled the entire package. Where did the black wood screw come from? Was there any damage to the finish with all that rolling around? -
sustain block variations (1978/ 1981)

Oh, this is cool: from an archived thread discussing the dimensions, @hamerhead provided this as supplied by @bruce919 There's some great discussion in the thread: -
sustain block variations (1978/ 1981)
velorush replied to cornjulio's question in Ask the HFC Experts
Definitely variations (I am a Strat guy, so I'm used to such), but I am convinced the Sustain Block is about the best guitar bridge ever made. Photos of the @hamerhead Sustain Block on the @kizanski' Senior, a 2003 Hamer custom order: A fantastic version (all that dust was mine and not original spec). -
The Cold Stares came up on yesterday's Spotify Release Radar. Never heard of them, but now I can't stop listening. Blues rock trio with just a really good vibe. Evansville, Indiana. Interesting. Enjoy.

sustain block variations (1978/ 1981)
velorush replied to cornjulio's question in Ask the HFC Experts
Just for context, @cornjulio, realize Hamerhead knows deeply of what he speaks being someone who produced his own Sustainblock run over 20 years ago. -
Some great help here from @Jimbilly and @Dave Scepter: totally missed the EMG element - definitely need a stereo output jack as the second element serves at the power switch when you plug in. I also (now) recall from my own late 80's use of EMGs that they do not require a ground. The HFC rules, as always!

DR. Z / Earthquaker Collaboration

EF86! That's too cool AND they went to the effort of providing an actual cab-emulated XLR out! Flawless execution. Really looking forward to a tone report! ETA: 500mA power supply? I'd need a dedicated supply as my Pedal Power has only one 400mA jack and it's powering a delay. -
That was entertaining and she seems perfectly normal about the whole thing. I totally missed the Deftones in the same way my dad missed Hendrix: starting a family and the concerns of a new dad overriding 'keeping up.' It's interesting that my introduction to them was through my son (22) who cites them as his absolutely preferred workout music. If he's lifting, Deftones are definitely on.

Yep, those barrels go bad. Simple to replace them. I recall using the Switchcraft replacement, but someone here might have a better suggestion. Amazon.com: Switchcraft 151 1/4-Inch Mono Thick PNL MT Jack : Musical Instruments Once they start giving fits it only gets worse.

I'm remembering Heil. Did Electro Harmonix make one? For some reason I'm remembering messing with an EH box back around '82, but it could have been a Heil.

NAD: Hughes & Kettner tubemeister 20 deluxe
velorush replied to Jimbilly's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I checked those out way back when Lerxst was running H&K's (Snakes & Arrows?). I had no interest in the 100w version, but these seemed to get the sound without blowing out windows. -
Researching all things Plexi: suggestions wanted
velorush replied to Travis's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The college bar we hung out at in the '80's was a dance club in a strip center, but they decided at some point to expand into the unoccupied space next door. They knocked a door through the wall and set up a stage for harder rock / metal. They brought in great bands from Memphis and Nashville, and it seemed the requirement to load in was at least one Marshall stack per guitarist and they were being run like you said, cranked until they got the sound. I've never had the privilege of plugging into a real one but was deafened many a night by those guys. Great times and great tones! -
Can you name them in one note?
velorush replied to Saul Goodman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Listening in the shower through a cranked iPhone, I didn't do well at all. I was able to get EVH and SRV. I got out of the shower just as he was starting to go over them and I recognized Gilmour without all the white noise. He could have played the entire UK album and I might have eventually guessed Holdsworth - just not something I've listened to. Amazing chops and I understand the influence on EVH but it's just not my thing. -
what did you bring home in 2025? (NHC)

Quick! Somebody warn @diablo175 to stay away from the thread: this thing has THREE blade switches. He might not recover! ETA: beautiful guitar! -
Amazing playing, especially considering he is obviously suffering from Digitalis Bratwurstus Giganticus!
