Brooks Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 (edited) My Mom passed July 4th after a long bout w/ alzheimers, she would have been 94 next month. She left a few bucks behind, so I spent about twice what I typically spend on a guitar (that I really didn't need 😁). I owned an Epiphone 339 awhile back, I liked the smaller sized body, but eventually moved it on after awhile, as we do. I found this custom shop 359, basically a cosmetically upgraded 339 w/ a blingy top, plek fret job, and tight setup. Damn sexy, plays and sounds great. It's got whats called a 60/30 neck (or 30/60?) which is a slightly thicker 60s slim taper, but smaller than their 50s neck spec. Took the pickguard off today. Very cool. JGale Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 Nice. How does the Ibanez stack up ‘gainst the 359? 1 Quote

The fully hollow big body Ibby has that round airy chime, similar to Kenny Burrells tone. The Gibson is more like a softer rounder LP. The quality is close, which says a lot about this $1200 Ibbys bang for buck, and how inflated the Gibson brand is. Don't get me wrong, the Gibson is fookin' nice, but not ~3 times nicer, not even twice as nice. Edited July 23, 2024 by Brooks 3 Quote

hamerhead Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 Sorry to hear about your Mom, Brooks. It's always harder than you expect.... Great guitar. Love the size. I had the Epi version for awhile. How does the CS Gibby compare? 2 Quote
burningyen Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 Condolences. That's a beautiful guitar. Hope it brings you good memories. 2 Quote

My Epiphone was cool but didn't come close to the quality. The playability and tone were kinda close but not the same. Don't remember the Epi being neck heavy, the 359 isn't, but I use wide leather straps. Don't remember the Epi being heavy overall, but the 359 is ~8.2 lbs, that's heavy for me, I have a bad back and the other 2 that I gig with (partscaster, Ibby) are ~6lbs. One of my regular gigs is 2 hours instead of 3, I will try the 359 there 1st. 2 Quote
Brooks Posted August 12, 2024 Author Posted August 12, 2024 (edited) Used it on the last 2 gigs, very pleased with it. Here's pics from yesterday (2nd pic my pal said "guitar hero pose!", ha). EDIT - Got a giant padded strap off of Amazon for $25, it makes a big difference. "Ribs for her, protection for you", haha Edited August 12, 2024 by Brooks 5 Quote

Biz Prof Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 (edited) Thread derail: At this point, "NSOS" to me means either "No shorts on stage" or "No sitting on stage". For the love of Christ, unless you're playing acoustic sets or smooth jazz, act like a rocker and stand the f@#$ up. I cannot stand the sight of shiftless lard asses reclining back in chairs whilst playing rock music. It's pathetic. Edited August 24, 2024 by Biz Prof 2 Quote
